Obituary For Alter Lee Sherman

Mr. Alter Lee Sherman, 77, of Hattiesburg, Mississippi passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at Forrest General Hospital, Hattiesburg, MS.

He is the son of the late Alton Lee Sherman. He was a member of Blackmon Temple Methodist Church, Carson, Mississippi and attended Priest Creek Baptist Church, Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He was a Mason.

Mr. Sherman worked as a Foreman at Ingalls Shipbuilding before retirement. He loved listening to gospel music, working puzzles and spending time with family and friends.

Graveside services are scheduled for Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at Holisday Creek Baptist Church, Carson, Mississippi at 11am.

He is survived by: sons, Ernie Sherman of Columbia, Ms; Alter Lee Sherman and Jermaine Gordan both of Hattiesburg, MS; daughter, Tretease Sherman of Hattiesburg, MS; brother, Alton Sherman of California; sister, Yoland Sherman of Florida;

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Home, 1-6pm.

Condolences to Alter's family members. We were HS classmates at Carver HS in Bassfield. I remember Alter as a very nice, friendly and giving person; very humble and honest. I chose a military career after graduation and did not see him again. My brother, Hugh, said they sometime rode together to and from the coast.
