Obituary Jerry Washington was born in Gadsden, AL on February 25, 1955 to the union of John Washington, Sr. and Lillie Wallace. After graduating from Etowah High School in 1973, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he obtained a honorable discharge. For the past 31 years he has been a truck driver for Sara Lee, Goldkist, JB Hunt and Indian River Company. Jerry was currently the loving Pastor of the Lion of Judah Worship Center in Gadsden, AL. Pastor Jerry was also the Overseer for the local jail service ministry for many years. Jerry had a love for grilling that led him to become known around town as 'the barbecue man'. He never missed a moment to let you know there was absolutely nobody who could touch his grilling. He would also let you know there was a secret in everything when it came to his style of grilling. He tried to feed everyone that was hungry. You could always find him walking fast out of Johnson's in Attalla with a buggy full of groceries. If you tried to hold a conversation with him, he would let you know, in mid stride, that he couldn't stop and talk because he had some hungry people to feed. His big smile and loud belly laugh will definitely be remembered.
Jerry found his new love on August 29, 1975 when he and Vera Marie Williams were united in Holy Matrimony. To this union his two greatest accomplishments were born, Terry (Watchman Yahshay Yahshar'al) and Patrick. On Thursday, February 25, 2021, The Most High in His infinite wisdom deemed it necessary to call His child home to eternal rest at Riverview Hospital on his 66th birthday.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, John Washington, Sr.; John Washington, Jr., Angela Crumpler, Delania Cunningham and Julia Crumpler. Those left to cherish Pastor Jerry's memories are: the love of his life and queen of 45 years, Vera Washington; two kings, Watchman Yahshay Yahshar'al (Stephanie) Washington, Patrick (Antina) Washington; mother, Lillie Washington; brothers, Melvin (Bertha) Washington, Leonard Washington; sisters, Mary Hand, Sabrina (Van) Whiteside, Norma Jean Washington, Monica Washington; sisters-in-law, Emma Jean (Britton) Childs, Carrie (Robert) Stubbs, Della (Eric) Guerrero, Madricka (Warren) Howard-Bostick; brothers-in-law, Arthur Crumpler, Ocie (Beatrice) Hope; special daughter, Terrica Carter; nine grandchildren whom he loved with the kind of love that only a grandparent could have and understand; and a host of many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends.
