Mr. Robert Sylvester Setzer transitioned on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at his home in Gastonia, North Carolina under hospice care. He was born August 28, 1935 to the late Sylvester and Katie Setzer in Gaston County, North Carolina.

He was a member of the Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church. Until his health failed, he was a member of the Hymn choir, Church choir, Brotherhood ministry and a charter member. He was educated in the Gaston County School system. Robert was employed by WIX, Inc. until retirement.

“Sut” as everyone knew him, was preceded in death by his parents: Sylvester and Katie Setzer; four brothers: S.M., William, Leslie and George and eight sisters: Mary Lee, Marion, Martha, Vergie, Teresa, Inez, Carlene and Evelyn.

Robert is survived by his wife of sixty-one years: Josephine Burris Setzer of Gastonia, NC; three sons: Robert Owen Setzer, (Sandra), Danny Setzer (Angela) and Steven Setzer (Andrea) all of Gastonia, NC; one daughter: D’Etta Setzer Connelly (Allen) of Gastonia, NC; six grandchildren: Jamia Setzer, Tanika Green (Truman), Joseph Setzer, Mariah Setzer and Paige Moore all of Gastonia, NC and Troy Elder of Fort Mead, MD; three great grandchildren: Kingsley Green, Karson Green and Paxon Littlejohn; one god grandson: Chance Davis and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral: Wednesday; March 3, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Gastonia

Interment: Thursday; March 4 2021; 10:00 a.m.; Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia
