Peace Prayer of Saint Francis Printer Friendly Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen. This poem reminds me of Mr. Preston because he always gave and never asked for anything in return. He could always be counted on for a cold watermelon in the middle of the summer. He truly was a selfless man. I remember visiting him once when he was in the hospital in NC. He must have bragged on that visit to everyone he knew. My grandmother was so proud that I had done that. It made me realize how the simplest act that has no financial value can make the biggest impact. And that visit was nothing in comparison that all he had shared with me and my family. He will be missed - Chad Gamble
