Obituary For Lenora Girton Malone

Lenora Girton Malone, 80 originally from Bloomfield, Kentucky, died February 24, 2021 in Louisville, Kentucky.

Visitation 10-12 Wednesday at W.T. Shumake & Daughters Funeral Home 3815 Newburg Road. Private funeral to follow at 12 noon. Burial Bloomfield Cemetery in Bloomfield, KY.

Lenora Girton Malone was born June 15, 1940, to her late parents, James & Ida Mae Girton. As a young child, she attended the A.M.E. Zion Church in Maud, Kentucky. Later she united with Southern Star Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky. She also attended New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church with her mother.

“Sis”, as she was affectionately called by family and friends, missed her calling because she could have been a comedian. She would slide in her zingers when no one expected them. Her fun-loving personality made her a joy to be around. She was the new style grandmother who traveled to the casinos, enjoyed listening to the blues and occasionally, curling up with a good book. Spending time with her family was what she genuinely enjoyed, but she made sure everyone knew she had a life, too. But for real, she was a caring, nurturing soul who wanted the best for everyone.

Lenora was employed by GE until her retirement. Then after retiring, she became a home healthcare worker traveling around making home visits. Lenora retired for the second time.

Sadly, Lenora Malone’s life on this earth came to an end on February 24, 2021, at the age of 80. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter Malone; and brothers, Marion and John Girton. She leaves to cherish her memories: three sons, Earl, Winfred, and Ricky Lewis; two sisters, Georgia Rogers and Florida Groves; a brother, Freddie Girton; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Loving and kind in all her ways,

Upright and just to the end of her days.

Sincere and true in her heart and mind;

A beautiful memory she left behind.

She had a nature you could not help loving,

A heart purer than gold

To those who knew her;

Her memory will never grow cold.

You sons may not remember me, but we lived next door to each other on Hale Ave. My sons were Kenny & Monty and I had a daughter,Michelle Browder. I was so sorry to hear of Lenora's passing. I remember when your dad died and it's ironic that I now pastor a church in Bloomfield and pastor some of your relatives. I will be praying for your strength and comfort.
