Obituary
MINISTER MINNIE MAGDLINE HARRISON WALKER, affectionately called “PeeWee,” entered into God’s Heavenly Gates on Sunday, February 28, 2021 in Duke University Hospital, Durham, NC. She was born August 9, 1929 to the late Nathaniel Harrison, Sr. and the late Hortense Savilla Patillo Harrison, the second oldest daughter and the last surviving child of nine siblings. She was also preceded in death by three brothers- Nathaniel, Jr., Matthew, Sr., and Thomas Jimmie; five sisters- Jossie, Frances, Virnell, Ida, and Boffie, and her great-grandson, Tyler Walker.
Minnie attended school in Brunswick County, VA.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Prospect RZUA Church and joined her family in membership at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, Brodnax, VA. She often talked about the good old days they had singing with the choir and participating in church activities- plays and ALL day long 5th Sunday Unions. Minnie was married to the late Elmo Odell Walker in 1947 and to this union three children were born- Willie Lee, Mae Ethel, and Sammie Louis. She was employed as a seamstress at Rollic, Incorporated, Lawrenceville, VA until her health failed, and later worked in the Domestic field until retirement.
Minnie later joined Mt. Sinai Christian Antioch Church of God in Christ under the leadership of the late Mother Sallie Richardson and Bishop Samuel Williams, where she was a licensed Missionary, Secretary, and President of the Youth and served as Assistant Pastor to her mother, Pastor Savilla Harrison. In 1980, Mt. Sinai was incorporated into a New Jersey Cooperation and the Church changed its name to Williams Temple Christian Antioch Church of God In Christ, where she a Trustee and served faithfully. After the dedication of the church in 1993, she served until the church closed its doors.
In 2008 a grand opening was held for The New Mt. Sinai Church, where she served under the leadership of Prophet Harry Lee Williams and became a licensed Trustee. On October 31, 2011, she held her initial trial sermon and was licensed as a Minister. She brought forth the word from Luke, entitled “Launch Out into the Deep; Go Out and Win Souls for Christ.” After the departure of Prophet Williams, she became Minister of the church; even though her health was failing she remained the pastor until her demise.
She was a loving Mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Once you met her she left a spark of her life with you that you would never forget. She had a warm sweet personality; she was called Mama and Grandma by so many that was not her immediate family. She was a great cook. Her siblings and family had favorite dishes that she would prepare, to name a few: baked tomatoes, black berry dumplings, sweet potato pie, the good old three layer cakes made from scratch (no measured ingredients) with home-made vanilla and chocolate icing cooked over the stove. She often sewed and made beautiful bed covering quilts.
During her last days at home she was always reading the scriptures and kept her mind on the Lord. Even the days when she seemed disoriented she would pray and sing the old hymns and even had a testimony as if she was in the church. Her last week’s here on earth, she prayed prayers that touched the hearts of the household and sang the praise songs that reached way deep down like: “Yes, Lord” and “There’s A Bright Side Somewhere.” Her last words to her devoted caring grandson were “I’m Just waiting to go home to be with the Lord.”
She leaves all her love and cherished memories to her loving sons- Willie Lee Walker, Sr., South Hill, VA and Sammie L. (Minister Corrine) Walker, Sr., Brodnax, VA; her loving daughter- Mae Ethel Walker of the home; grandsons she reared as her own- Arlton “Parnell” (Linda), Carlton (Janet Elaine), Breaumond, DeMarcus “Fred” (Mia), Timothy and Mikale, who provided love, compassion and unlimited care; Barbara, LaTanya, Willie Jr., Carnell, Sammie Jr., Co-Pastor Shelly (Pastor Anthony), and Briant; 13 other grandchildren, 59 great-grands, and 12 great-great-grandchildren; five sisters-in-law, Mother Barbara Harrison, Deaconess Virginia Harrison, Allentown, PA; Sophie Prince, Bowie, MD; Catherine Johnson, Temple Hills, MD; and Alice Walker (David) Jones, Brodnax, VA; four brothers-in-law, Haywood Walker, Upper Marlboro, MD; Charlie Walker, Temple Hills, MD; Deacon Clyde (Dorothy) Walker, LaCrosse, VA; and Virginius “Pete” (Alice) Walker, LaCrosse, VA; her devoted niece and name-sake, Paula Magdline Lofton Boyd; other nieces and nephews; adopted grandchildren: The Barners, who called her Grams; The Feggins who called her Grandma; her three church sisters- Pastor Barbara Garnes, Deaconess Bessie Brown, and Mother Shirley Walker; the Clergy, members, and friends.
