Obituary For Mrs. Alice Pennyman Atwater

Mother Alice Pennyman Atwater was born September 20, 1933 to the late Mrs. Sallie Edge Pennyman and the late Mr. Stover Pennyman in Thomaston, Upson County, Georgia. She was educated in the Upson County School System. When Alice reached womanhood, she met and was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Samuel "Tap" Atwater, Jr. They were the proud parents of seven children. To help support her family, she became employed as a private duty housekeeper. She would later become employed by the Peerless Cotton Mills in Thomaston, GA. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved her family, and she was loved in return. Alice was a long and faithful member of the Friendship Baptist Church. She served on the Mother's Ministry and the Culinary Committee. She enjoyed the preaching of the word by her pastor and was a dedicated and supportive member. During her leisure time, Alice enjoyed fishing; word puzzles; baking, especially her red velvet cake; and visiting with her friends. She enjoyed being a help to anyone in need. On Friday, February 26, 2021, the Lord determined that the time of Alice’s departure was a hand. She was called her home to eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; step-daughter, Betty Jean Atwater; a grandson, Antoine Atwater; and two devoted friends, Ruby Slaton Pennyman and Geneva King. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Alice leaves to cherish her memory six children, Mr. Clarence Atwater, Mr. Timothy Atwater, Mr. Anthony Atwater, Mrs. Suzette (Fernando) Searcy and Mr. Keith (Chandra) Atwater all of Thomaston, GA; and Ms. Marvette Atwater of Jacksonville, FL; two generations of grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Evaline Quiller and Ms. Josephine Pennyman both of Thomaston, GA; one brother, Mr. Morris Pennyman of Thomaston, GA; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Graveside Services were held Thursday, March 4, 2021 11:00 A.M. Southview Cemetery
