Obituary For Agnes Mitchell

Obituary

Agnes Isabella Mitchell was born in Quitman, Georgia, on February 14, 1934, to the late Isabella and Ephraim Thomas. She was united in Holy matrimony on January 14, 1950, to the late James Mitchell, and in that union, they had seven children. She was a devoted wife and mother who took pride and joy in raising not only her children but her grandchildren and the community’s children. She attended school in the Nankin School system.

Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, James Mitchell; son, Frank Mitchell; and grandson, Craig Brooks, Sr.

She leaves to cherish the memories of her life: four daughters, Maxine Mitchell, and Eva Mae Mitchell, both of Quitman, Georgia, and Carolyn Brooks, and Gladys Mitchell, both of Valdosta, Georgia; two sons, Ephraim Thomas of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Willie Mitchell of Jacksonville, Florida; one sister, Lucille Grant of St. Petersburg, Florida; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, greatgreat-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Your mother is always with you. She’s the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street. She’s the smell of certain foods you remember, flowers you pick, the fragrance of life itself. She’s the cool hand on your brow when you’re not feeling well. She’s your breath in the air on a cold winters’ day. She is the sound of the rain that lulls you to sleep; the colors of a rainbow.

Graveside services will be Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 11AM at North End Cemetery with Rev. Floyd Demps, eulogist. Visitation will be Friday at the Stevens-McGhee Chapel from 3PM-7PM. Visit this website or our Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home Facebook page to view a livestream of the celebration.
