Obituary For Mary Etta Prunty Shelton

On Saturday, March 6, 2021 the Lord in His Infinite wisdom say fit to call from labor to reward, our beloved Mother Mary Etta Prunty Shelton. She was born in Henry County, VA on March 16, 1930, the daughter of the late William Marshall Prunty and the late Mary E. Stone Prunty.

In addition to her parents, Mother Shelton was preceded in death by her husband, Elder Ben Frank Shelton; and four grandchildren, Shalynda Toney and Cory Mayo, Tamara Gravely and Dorian Gravely. four sisters, Elizabeth Prunty, Temple Blanks, Dorothy Prunty, and Betty Martin; and four brothers, James Prunty, Daniel Prunty, Billy Prunty, and Joe Lewis Prunty.

Mother Shelton was a faithful member of Paradise Cathedral (COGIC) Roanoke, VA, for over thirty years. She served as the Mother, and as a member of Sisters of Paradise.

Mother Shelton leaves to cherish her beloved memory, One son, Clarence F. Shelton of Martinsville, VA; five daughters, Mary E. Menefee of Bassett, VA, Linda S. (Bishop Joseph) Mayo of Daleville, VA, Dianne S. (Steve) Hairston of Martinsville, VA, Nancy S. (Lan) Preston of Collinsville, VA, and Angela S. (Bishop Frank) Toney of Wirtz, VA; three sisters, Peggy Penn of Bassett, VA, Pastor Shirley O'Neal-Fowler of Eden, NC, and Margaret Terry of Martinsville, VA; one brother, Bobby Prunty of Toledo, OH; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 12, 2021 at 1 p.m. at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home. A visitation will be held at Hairston Funeral Home on Friday from 12:30 p.m. until 1 p.m. On Thursday, March 11, 2021, a public viewing will be held at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1p.m. until 5 p.m. In accordance with the CDC, a face covering and social distancing is required. Burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens.
