Obituary For Daniel Michael Thompson

Daniel Michael Thompson, 61, of Louisville died February 28, 2021.

Visitation – Monday, March 8, 2021 10:30-12:30. Funeral to follow at 12:30. Burial Evergreen Cemetery.

Daniel Michael Thompson, was born May 8, 1959 in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Charles and Atholene Thompson. He was the youngest of nine children born to the union of his proud parents.

At an early age, Daniel joined Guiding Star Baptist Church, under the Pastorate of Rev. S.T. Robinson. He was active in the church, and took pride in his position as an Usher. Two of his Nephews were reminiscing of how they would spend quality time with their Uncle after church every Sunday, talking about whatever came to their minds. Such good memories!

Daniel was a 1977 Graduate of Western High School. His dad stressed to all of the children that after high school graduation, being gainfully employed would be their next goal. So Daniel never forgot that statement. Very shortly after graduating from high school, he became employed at Kings Daughter’s and Son’s Home, as a Housekeeping Attendant. From there, Daniel worked at Frazier Rehab Center, in 1978, as a Physical Therapy Attendant.

Being a high school graduate was not the stopping point for Daniel. He obtained his Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy from Jefferson Community College in 1990, and had a long lasting career at Norton’s Hospital as a Respiratory Therapist from 1990 to the present.

Daniel had many interests. He was an avid reader of history and sports books. He had a love for art and Jazz Music. He had such a love for them, that he took time to research the origin of each piece of art, and became knowledgeable about the musical artist who produced the music. He was an interesting person.

Daniel was a collector of many things – comic books, model trains, model planes, model rockets, space models, and a few other prize possessions.

He was considered the “Resident In-House Sports Analyst”. He was thought of as an analyst, because he analyzed every sport mentionable. He knew all the rules of each sport, expected the players to adhere to those rules, and could analyze every play made. Daniel also enjoyed a good wrestling match. One of his Nieces recollects attending wrestling matches every Tuesday with her uncle. This was an outing she anticipated each Tuesday – spending time with Uncle Daniel.

Daniel was known as a big jokester. He had an impeccable sense of humor, and could change your gloomy mood, to one of laughter. He was the “life of the party”, and everyone looked forward to being around him. He loved his nieces and nephews, and enjoyed being with family.

On Sunday, February 28, 2021, Daniel Michael Thompson departed this life. He was preceded in death by his parents,; brothers, James Earl, and Martin Richard Thompson. He leaves to cherish his memories his one and only sister, Barbara Smith (Herman); and brothers , Charles T. Thompson, Jr. (Sandra), Herman Lee Thompson, Sr. (Lola), Willis Edward Thompson (Sherline), Paul Leroy Thompson, and David Ray Thompson (Melissa); nephews, nieces, and a host of other relatives

Daniel will be missed!
