He was born in Cleveland County, North Carolina on January 4, 1944 to the late Benjamin Cornwell Sr. and Sarah Lee Harris Cornwell. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Harris.
Survivors are his wife of fifty eight years, Virginia Wilson Cornwell of the home, three sons, Aubrey Gene (Denise) Wilson of Gastonia, NC, Leonard (Michelle) Cornwell of Iron Station, NC, Kevin James Cornwell of Lincolnton, NC, three daughters, Barbara (Kenny) Crawford of Lincolnton, NC, Michelle (Shawn) Forney of Cherryville, NC, Sharon (James) Thomas of Stanley, NC, one brother, Anderson Cornwell of Hickory, NC, three sisters, Sarah Lopes, Ruth (Walter) Witherspoon, Pastor Emma (Bill) Doughty all of Hickory, NC, twenty seven grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be Sunday, March 14, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in White’s Family Chapel with burial to follow in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service on Sunday. There will be a public walkthrough at the Funeral Home from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.

He was a member of Truth Followers Church and retired from Estes Express Lines Trucking Company.
