Obituary For Jakie R. Gadson

Jakie R. Gadson, affectionately called โ€œManโ€ by family and friends, was born on April 30, 1956, in Tarpon Springs, Florida, Jakie Gadson, Sr. and Barbara Forbes.

Jakie attended Union Academy during his primary years. During his middle school years, he attended Tarpon Junior High School and was a graduate of Tarpon Senior High School, Class of 1975. He continued his educational goals at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, where he played on the football team. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served for four years, surviving the Beirut bombing in 1983. He was a Free Mason Grandmaster with Saint Safford Lodge #67. Jakie was employed with the State of Florida Department of Corrections for 18 years.

Jakie enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a devoted member of Mt. Herman Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a member of the choir and a church van driver. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Jakie enjoyed watching westerns and wrestling television shows. After retirement, he took pleasure in cutting the lawns in the neighborhood.

Jakie R. Gadson departed this earthly life for his eternal home on March 2, 2021, Tarpon Springs, Florida.

He leaves cherished memories toโ€ฆ Sons: Jamil Gadson (Magdalena) and Clint Burrowes; Daughter: Kirby Thompson (Damion) Mother: Barbara Forbes Father and stepmother: Jakie Gadson, Sr. (Gladys) Brothers: Henry Forbes (Monica), Curtis Saunders, Brian Gadson, Jakie Gadson, Jr. (Teresa) and Tony Brown (Yvette) Sisters: Sonja Hicks (Rickey), Winzella Williams (Antonio), Katrina Saunders, Gina Bass (Antoine), Erica Johnson and Tamala Holmes (John) His ex-wife, whom he was married to for 16 years: Joy Thurston Grandchildren: Scavorris, Izaiah, Anastasia, Jamil, Jr. and Jake Sister-in-law: Gale Gadson And a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends from the Pelican Point Seafood, Rusty Bellies, Department of Corrections and Henderson State University.

Public Viewing will be Friday March 12, 2021 (5P - 7P) & Home Going Services will be Saturday March 13, 2021 (11AM) both at Mt. Hermon MBC 400 S. Levis Ave. Tarpon Springs, FL 34689.

For the safety of those in attendance CDC guidelines will be adhered to for both the Public Viewing and Home Going Services.
