I am at a loss for words..... Max was a true genuine man with a great spirit. I met Max in 1989 he was my manager at Southern States I enjoyed working with Max, he really looked out for me and offered many words of wisdom. He would come to work and say ''Alright Donna it's going to be a different ballgame in here'' . I knew that meant I better get myself together. I occasionally would run into Max at different places in Richmond he has never changed over the years always pleasant, cheerful Max. To Alice , Allison & Kellie my prayers and condolences are with you and your family during this difficult times know that your husband / father has touched numerous lives and will truly be missed. To the family of Max, I offer my deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences on your loss of this wonderful man. Max was a consequential human being, who deeply touched the lives of those who were fortunate to enter his orbit. I had the pleasure to meet Max at NCAT and we reconnected, to my surprise, in my hometown over 10 years after we graduated. Max and I would spend hours talking, either in my yard, his beautiful yard, or at Southern States. Max taught me how to establish a lawn, and did so by lending both his brains and labor to a desperately uniformed homeowner. There was not a kinder human being on this earth and I will miss him greatly. May God grant each of you, a peace that surpasses understanding. Wayne Turnage (Aggies, Class of 1980).

My deepest condolences to Alice and the girls as well as the entire family. I met Max soon after moving to Richmond in 1999, his Love for his family was recognized immediately and his kindness over the years to me and all who knew him genuine. Our last time seeing each other was over the summer smoking a cigar at a neighbor across the street from his home. I will carry that and many fond thoughts of our times spent together and will miss them. Until we see each other again Maxi. Geno

I don't even have the words because no words feel right. Maxwell was another dad to me because I grew up with his daughters. I literally could drop by the Whitaker house even when the girls weren't there because I was apart of their family. I will miss him, his little high pitch voice, myself and his girls talking trash while laughing at him in the kitchen cooking or grilling, and him talking trash to people when it comes to the Cowboys. I love you Max ....Rest Easy with the big man upstairs -LaTrice Ellerbe
