Obituary For Mrs. Margaret Beard Jones

AUGUSTA, GA—Margaret Beard Jones was born in Appling, Georgia on Decem- ber 28, 1928 to the late Reverend Levi and Mary Frails Beard. She is the 9th child among the 13 offspring born to this union.

Her Christian walk began at Beulah Grove Baptist Church. She would join the membership of Belle-Terrace Presbyterian Church, later in life, with her family. Margaret was educated in the Richmond County Public School System and began a 30 plus year career in education, in the Richmond County Public School System, that took her from Teacher to Kindergarten Coordinator to retire as Principal. During this career, she encouraged the minds of many young boys and girls to achieve their greatness.

On August 29, 1959, Margaret was joined in matrimony to Mr. Parnell W. Jones. To this union, two children entered: Mr. Danny P. Jones and Mrs. Marsha J. Moorman. Many wonderful family memories were shared around the dinner table and family trips.

Margaret shared her gifts and talents with many organizations to include: Charter Member of Augusta Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority; Organizer/Charter Member of the Augusta Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc.; Mother Workman’s Haitian Ministry, Outreach Women’s Prison Ministry, Les Femmes Fatales Bridge Club, DYWYK Bridge Club.

Her daughter, Marsha, was at her bedside to sing her favorite hymns (Going Up A Yonder, Amazing Grace, What A Friend We Have In Jesus, Hold To God’s Unchanging Hand, Everything’s Gonna Be Alright) as she transitioned to her eternal home with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Her namesake, Margot, with whom she shared a birthday, always was at her side. They enjoyed many outings together and trips to the nail salon. Whatever MaMa needed, be it small or large, Margot was quick to make it happen. She watched her MaMa’s every move so much so that the family always said, “Margot! When MaMa wants to go home to glory, you’ll be holding her leg and won’t let her go!” As she peacefully rested, Margot saw her MaMa and said, “She can go. I know where she’s going.” Margaret lived life to its fullest. She lived 92 years strong. She loved our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; cherished her family, adored her friends, and loved a good hand of bridge.

Waiting for her to enter those pearly gates are her father, mother, devoted brothers, dear sisters, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Left behind on March 16, 2021 to cherish her memory are her loving husband (Mr. Parnell W. Jones), devoted son (Mr. Danny P. Jones (Faith)), dedicated daughter (Mrs. Marsha J. Moorman (Nathaniel)); grandchildren (David Jones, Danielle Jones, Marsha Lea Moorman, Marisa Moorman, Margot Moorman, Maxwell Moorman), great-grandson (Cameron Moorman); Godsons, Reginald Johnson and A. K. Hasan, Goddaughter, Amy Cisrow Peterson, dear nephew and niece, Curtis and Gloria Jean Cisrow; special nephew, Mr. James Johnson, Jr; sisters, (Mrs. Juanita B. McIntyre, Mrs. Estelle Boykin), nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. The family is thankful for the care given to our loved one at The Benton House Augusta. The special caretakers: Ms. Beckey, Ms. Hollie. We are grateful for the circle of prayer from the Belle-Terrace Church Family. We appreciate Dr. Daniel Boone, Nurses Jackie, Mona and staff who cared for our loved one on this journey and allowed her to live with dignity and grace. To Marsha, Dani, Pa Jones and the Beard and Jones family I send my condolences, prayers and love on behalf of myself and the Singh and Richards family here in Bermuda. I am sorry that I am not able to be there in person to give my support and share in this time of mourning and celebration of her home going. I will always be grateful for Mom Jones, who welcomed me into her house and family and treated me like a daughter. One of my special memories is mom and pa's visit to Bermuda to attend my wedding over 25 years ago I will always remember the way her face and eyes lit up and her smile. Her straight talk that was always wrapped up in love. Her genuine words of encouragement and words of wisdom. The godly woman, who was a role model for me and who helped mold me into the woman that I am. I will miss her, but I am thankful for being blessed to have her play a significant part in my life's journey. Again our love and prayers are with you all. Esther (Richards) Singh
