Joan Felder Dewitt, 80, of Hastings, was born on Tuesday, April 16, 1940 to Freddie and Dinah Felder. She was married to Samuel Dewitt for over 50 years. She received her education from Central Academy Elementary School in East Palatka, Fl. She also received her Secretary degree from the Vocational Technical Institution of St. Augustine, Fl. She was hired as a full-time secretary at Epic Behavioral and Mental Health Facility in St. Augustine, where she was employed for over 30 years. She was a member of Mt. Pisgah African Methodist Episcopal Church of Federal Point, Fl. She served as a Stewardess, and Secretary of Mt. Pisgah for over 60 years under the leadership of Rev. Patricia McGathy, Rev. Kathy Elmore, and others. After the closure of the church, she then moved her membership to Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Federal Point, under the leadership of Rev. Robert Sharp, Rev. Johnnie Butts, and now Pastor Rev. Theodore McRae. During her time at Mt. Zion, she served as secretary for 10 years. She loved cooking and spending time with her family. She touched the lives of all who encountered her. In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in eternal rest by her husband, Samuel Dewitt, brothers, Freddie O. Felder, Willie R. Felder, Kevin Felder, sister, Annette Kaymore, daughter, Michelle Pates, grandson, Marcus Pates, great-granddaughter, Forever Hightower. She leaves to cherish her many memories: sons, Samuel L. Dewitt, Gregory Dewitt, Steven (Jennifer) Dewitt, daughters, Angela (Neeko) Doy, Sharonda Dewitt (Eric), (12) grandsons, (18) granddaughters (41) great-grands, (2) great-great grands, stepmother, Jeanette Felder, sisters, Gloria (Augusta) Bryson, Brenda (Preston) Ruth, Barbara (James) Hires, Jennifer McCloud, brother-in-law, Rev. Leroy Kaymore, sister-in-law, Yolanda Felder, Mary Felder, son-in-law, Mayfield Pates, aunt, Gertrude Steward and a host of nieces, nephews, and other beloved family and friends. The Dewitt family will receive friends and the community from 5-8 p.m., on Friday, April 2, 2021 at Coleman’s Mortuary Chapel. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at The Lord’s Temple, 140 Gilmore St. - Hastings, Bishop Thomas Cave, III Pastor and Eulogist.
