Obituary For Mae Julia Douthard

MAE JULIA CROSS DOUTHARD, of Gadsden, Alabama, affectionately known to the neighborhood children as “Miss Mae Julia” received her heavenly wings at the age of 92 on March 24, 2021. Julia was born in Greene County, Alabama on December 8, 1928. Her earlier years were spent in Bessemer, Alabama. Upon relocating to Gadsden, she graduated from Carver High School. Julia confessed Christ at an early age and became of member of Friendship Baptist Church. She united in holy matrimony to Joseph Douthard on July 9. 1952, and they remained married until his death, celebrating 58 years of marriage.

Julia was known for maintaining an attractive yard, which included various types of beautiful flowers and plants, along with numerous fruit frees. She was recognized by the Gadsden Beautification Board Award on numerous occasions for preserving the picturesque landscaping. She was also known for the treats from her kitchen that she served to family, neighbors and close friends. Julia will be remembered for her modesty, caring personality, sweet spirit, and being helpful to everyone. Aside from serving God, Julia served others. She leaves to cherish her memory and honor her legacy, her children Betty Faye Zeigler, Joseph “Danny” Douthard (April) of Atlanta, Georgia and Daryl Douthard of Gadsden, Alabama. Close friends Diane Treadwell and Ester Crook and a host of adopted grandchildren, neighbors, and dear friends.

Memorial Service and Interment will held on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at 11:00am at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. Pastor Gerald Wright will officiate.
