Obituary For Alma Lee Mitchell

Alma Lee Mitchell, 89, of Walnut Cove, NC died March 20, 2021. Public viewing will be from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 29, 2021 at Perry- Spencer Funeral Home, Madison, NC. A PRIVATE funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday March 30, 2021. Livestream will be available at perryspencerfuneralhome.com.

On Monday, March 22, 2021, God sent his angel to escort our dearly beloved Mother, who was known by her church family, as Mother Alma Lee Mitchell to where God was waiting to welcome her in with open arms. She was born February 8, 1932 in Stokes County to the late Burley Hairston, Sr., and Lisora Welch Hairston. She attended Stokes County Colored School. She retired from Unifi in Mayodan, NC. She was a faithful member of New London Progressive Primitive Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher Ministry, Culinary Committee and Mother of the Church for a number of years. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry A. “Decie) Mitchell of 48 years, stepmother, Elinor J. Hairston, three sisters, Dorothy Mae, Shirley Hairston and Paige Duncan (Kenny).

She leaves to cherish her loving memoires: three daughters; Jeannie Mitchelll, Verler M. Hairston (James), Charolotte Wadelington (Rev. Arthur), son; Ronnie L. Mitchell (Phyllis) all of Walnut Cove, NC, sister; Jennie Hairston of Kernersville, NC, Phyllis Sapp (Sam) of Walnut Cove, NC, brothers; William Hairston (Earlene) of Winston Salem, NC, Joe Hairston (Peggy), Burley Hairston, Jr. (Brenda) of Walnut Cove, NC, 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, sister-in-law; Nancy Mitchell of Walnut Cove, NC, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
