Mrs. Jannie Mae Owens Powell

Mrs. Jannie Mae Owens Powell was born September 26, 1937 in Barnesville, Lamar County, Georgia to the late Samuel R. Owens and the late Emma L. Owens. She joined the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church as a young girl and served there faithfully throughout her life. She was a member of the Mothers Board, and you could find her each Sunday at her seat in the church choir. Jannie received her education from the Lamar County School System and was a 1956 graduate of Booker High School. Throughout her adult life she worked several jobs and retired from the William Carter Company with 33 years of service. She was married to Paul Powell; and to this union of 65 years, two children were born. A son, Terry Powell, preceded her in death. Jannie had a magnetic personality and never met a stranger. She had a strong passion for family, friends, and people in general, and will be remembered for her kind, sweet, and never changing personality. Jannie was called from labor to reward on Tuesday, March 23, 2021. Her memories are cherished by her husband, Paul Powell of Milner, GA; a daughter, Pauline (Melvin) Woodard of Stockbridge, GA; two grandchildren, Franklin (Alexandra) Woodard of Warner Robins, GA and Caitlyn Woodard of Stockbridge, GA; two great-grandchildren (twins), Micah and Emilia Woodard; a sister, Lucy (Rev. Charles) Dumas of Griffin GA; two very dear longtime friends, Patricia Buice and Jean Morgan; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly. Graveside Services were held Monday, March 29, 2021 1:00 P.M. Springhill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery
