Obituary For Mary Byers

Mary Foster Byers, of Spartanburg, SC, was called home to be with the Lord on March 26, 2021.

She was born on May 1, 1948 to the late John Marcus Foster, Sr. and the Late Maggie Shelton Foster.

Mary dedicated her life to her Christian Faith, Family, Church and Community. As a life-long member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Mary served her church in a multitude of roles, committees and ministries.

She graduated with the Class of 1966 from Carver High School. After completing accounting and Secretarial School, Mary went on to work for Spartanburg County School District 7, until her retirement in 2014, after 47 years. You could also find Mary working at your local Voter Polls and Voter Registration Office.

Mary became a member of the Xi Sigma Philo Chapter of the Sigma Gamma Rho Philo Affiliates in May of 1975. As a Philo, Mary participated in providing school supplies, food, scholarships, voter registration, financial literacy, toys, clothes, and overall moral support to the Spartanburg community and entire Philo network. During her time as a Philo, she held multiple offices throughout the local, regional and national levels of the organization.

She was an avid traveler and was able to see most of the United States, surrounding Islands and a few countries. She was a savvy business lady with excellent financial management skills. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, attending social events, spending time with her family and video calling her Great- Grandson.

Left to cherish fond and loving memories are: her granddaughter, Ashley Byers (LaNorris) Smith of Snellville, GA; one great-grandson, Preston Levi Smith of Snellville, GA; her siblings, Sandra Maynes and Harrison Foster both of Moore, SC, Lynne (Theodore) English and Sharella Caldwell both of Spartanburg, SC; daughter-in-law, LaKeisha Byers of Spartanburg,SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, sorority sisters and friends.

She was preceded in death by: her son, Karlo Sharif Byers; a special friend, Broadus Haywood; her brother, John Marcus Foster, Jr.; sister, Marsha Faye Foster, and Ida "Annette" Adams; and her brother-in-law, Johnny Adams.

Words cannot express how much Mary and her beautiful smile will be missed by her family, past colleagues, classmates, sorority sisters, friends, and community.

A Celebration of the Life of Mary Foster Byers will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at 12:30 p.m. at Lincoln Memorial Gardens, 2256 Cannons Campground Rd., Drayton, SC. Live Stream services will be available on Facebook on the TEEFERGUSONREPORT.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard St., Spartanburg, SC.
