I did not get to know Cheri for very long, but the time that I did have I learned that she had a joy about life that spilled over to everyone that she met. I look forward to the day that we will all be together again.

I've looked up to my big Cousin, Cheri, throughout my life. Kind, engaging and full of life. It always was a special time when I could be around you Cheri; whether it was growing up and visiting you, Carmelita and our Aunts Ernestine and Susie in Chicago. Or when we all made our way to Georgia, and how we would laugh and enjoy cousin-time in Athens or Atlanta or somewhere in between. And even more recently, our text thread where you, Jackie and I would share laughs and encouragement. The last time I saw you in person was such a blessing. I walked away feeling deeply touched. It was beautiful to see the places you and family had traveled and to hear you share about our family. I will remain inspired by your tremendous courage to endure and fight through so much physically in order to be with us for as long as you could. But your strongest lasting legacy is how you loved God and loved others. Your faith is one you share with your beloved husband, Chris. Coupled with faith is the "amazing love," to use your daughter's words, in describing your marriage. Your children and grandchildren couldn't ask for a better legacy than to know they come from a heritage of enduring faith, love and commitment to family and service to others. You didn't just talk it – you lived it! And we all are the benefactors of the love that flowed through you because you were connected to the source of Love. There are so many ways you will remain in my heart Cheri...You were not one to say goodbye. I guess you knew we really didn't need to... I love you forever, dear Cousin and will see you again! Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Proverbs 31:30 "My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style." —Maya Angelou

Although I didn't know my great Auntie for a long time, I am blessed that I got to get to know her at all. She was very kind to me; she told me about her family and some of her life, and genuinely wanted to get to know me. I really wish I had gotten the chance to know her more, but I'm grateful that she made the effort to reach out and connect with me.

15 years ago Cheri and I met while in school together.. She was sitting on her steps one day praying for a friend and I was praying the same as I drove up to her house, the rest is history. We worked together on many community service projects as officers in the phi theta kappa organization and through sharing our similar values and upbringing instilled in us by our parents and realizing how much we had in common we became friends. for life She called me her ride or die chick and her sista from another mother. She opened my eyes , enlightened me and taught me what friendship was truly about and always encouraged a commitment to excellence in everything we do in life whether it's higher education or commitment to family and friends or standing up for what you believe . We shared joy and laughter and sorrows and many life events together in a bond of love and friendship that will never go away. I love you Cheri, my sister from another mother and I will never forget you. You changed my life for the better knowing you and your family. You will always be In my heart and soul. I love the Griffin family as my own and will honor my promise to Cheri to keep in touch and make sure you are all ok. Rest easy my friend, my sister. I will miss you. Lucy Lines Bedell

My mother was my best friend and role model. I guess you can say she was my super hero and my saving grace. Mom taught me the value of obtaining my education and what I can accomplish from applying myself. She would always worry about me and all the traveling I would have to do to come home and help out. I miss my mother every day, I find myself sometimes dialing her number and then remember she is gone. I find myself looking at the pictures of all the travels we have taken and smiling because we did have fun as a family. Mom I love you and I will truly miss you in my life. Valerie

As I light a candle for Cheri, I was struck with the realization that Cheri illuminated every environment that she may have been in. She was indeed a bright, brilliant light, who enriched all who knew her. As we remember her life, we honor a beautiful person. One who was kind, compassionate, just, intelligent, and very loving. She was a lifelong learner, and a consummate teacher. She encouraged growth. Whether in the classroom, directing traffic in Athens, or while carrying a heavy TV camera in the streets of Chicago; throughout her life she encouraged interest and growth. Family and true friends meant everything to Cheri. The strength and beauty of Chris and Cheri's bond embolden their children and grandchildren. She took great pride in her birth family, often referring to "Long Strong". I have known Cheri all of her life, and she has always been a bright shining light. This past year we talked a lot by telephone, and every time before we hung up, Cheri insisted we ended with three little words. Yes, Cheri, I love you...very, very much. Aunt Eloise

I'm so sorry to hear of her passing. She was such a beautiful person and had a beautiful laugh. I was her nurse many times, and when I wasn't, I'd still go in and visit her and we would talk for hours about life, Star Wars, recipes, favorite places we've been to and things we want to do. We always wanted to get together outside of the hospital, but our lunch date will have to wait. I will miss her joy and her hugs. Her family is in my thoughts. I love you, Ms. Cheri!

Cheri is my sister-in-law, and I will always remember how greatful I was for a kindness she extended to me many years ago. She planned a day especially for her family and opened her heart to include my family. It was something I'll never forget and always cherish that memory and love her for that. I wish we could have talked. God bless you.

I am so grateful to have met Cheri last year. I thank Chris and the CHaRM for being a catalyst, and though I only had a short time with Cheri, she absolutely made a lasting impact on my life, as I'm sure many others can relate. Cheri brought a light into my life and the life of everyone she talked with. She taught me so much about our neighborhood in West Hancock, and together we had a lot of ideas for creative projects we could do together. She was so supportive of everything I spoke with her about, remembering even small details about my life. She encouraged the work my fiance and I are doing to rebuild the house next door to her childhood home, and I can't put words to how much that meant to me. Our lives are forever improved for having known Cheri. We will miss you and know you're resting somewhere peaceful now.
