Obituary For Lionel Diggs

Lionel Diggs, affectionately known as Lenny was born July 25, 1943 in Houma, Louisiana to Herman and Olevia McKinley Galmore. Lionel was educated in the Public School district of Terrebonne Parish. After school he joined the United States Armed Forces for four years and fought in the Vietnam War. He served his country well and received an Honorable Discharge.

Lionel moved to New York City in 1965 and found employment with Jacob Produce where he was a Supervisor until Retirement.

He accepted Christ at an early age. He was a member of St. Luke Baptist Church in Huoma, Louisiana where he was baptized at the tender age of 10 years old by The Reverend H. Gary. After moving to New York, he became a member of Goodwill Baptist Church under the Leadership of Dr. Booker T. Sears, Senior Pastor.

On July 2, 1983 Lionel was united in holy matrimony to Catherine Burroughs Diggs and they were united with a daughter Stephanie Porche. His lovely wife preceded him in death.

He is survived by daughter Stephanie Porche, three grandchildren, Sasha, Kyheem and Marlo Porche of the Bronx, New York. Two brothers, Rev. Alfred Diggs (Doretha) of Napoleonville, LA and Percy (Debra) Galmore of Huoma, LA. Three sisters, Mollie L. Diggs of Harvey, LA., Helen (James) Green of Houma, LA., Aline (Curtis) Johnson of Jasper, AL and a host of relatives and friends.

On Saturday, March 27, 2021, our almighty GOD reached down and welcomed Lionel back home. He will be missed by all who knew him.
