Freddie Bernard Johnson

10/26/1957 - 03/27/2021

Mr. Freddie B. Johnson was born on October 26, 1957 in Vicksburg, Mississippi to the union of the late Mr. Robert M. Johnson and Mrs. Clytie “MaDea” Johnson. He was the eleventh of twelve children. Five siblings preceded him in death; Robert (Bubba) P. Johnson, Jr., Cornell Johnson, John Cleveland Johnson, Stanley Johnson, and Ronald (Ronnie) Johnson. Freddie confessed a belief in Christ. He was baptized and united with Christ at an early age at Central United Methodist Church. Later in life he was baptized into the Baptist faith at Greater Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Freddie was baptized with his daughter Nikki at Greater Mt. Calvary Baptist Church by the Pastor, Dr. John E. Cameron, Sr. Freddie grew up in the Washington Addition West Jackson Community. Freddie enjoyed playing softball; riding his bicycle, that his sister Carolyn bought him; and going to the Community Center on Booker Street. Freddie attended Jim Hill High and is a proud member of the Class of 1975. He participated in many school activities, excelled in his studies, and was selected as Class Beau. After graduation, Freddie enrolled in Hinds Community College and received two Associate degrees in Business Management and Hotel Management. Freddie joined the United States Army in 1977, where he completed basic training at Fort Jackson in South Carolina. He was stationed at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii serving in the 25th Infantry Division “The Wolfhounds”. He received medals for good conduct and being an expert rifleman. He served his country for four (4) years and was relieved from active duty in 1981 with an Honorable discharge. Freddie married Dr. Peggy L. Seaton on July 21, 1979 and built a life together rearing three (3) lovely daughters; Dr. Shuntina L. Johnson, Dr. Nikki G. Johnson, and Dr. Betty M. Johnson. They spent many years together traveling and spoiling those girls. He was adamant about them getting a good education. He taught them to treat people kind and with respect, but more importantly he demanded that they required others to show them the same amount of respect. Freddie taught his girls the “Art of the Cool,” in all situations. Just when he thought he had all the ladies in his life, along came his granddaughter Trinity Tahani Johnson, who stole his heart. She became the love of his life and she believed her Paw-Paw could move mountains. Freddie leaves to cherish his memories: three (3) daughters Dr. Shuntina L. Johnson, Ph.D. Brandon, Mississippi, Dr. Nikki G. Johnson, DrPH, Jackson, Mississippi, Dr. Betty (B.J.) Johnson, D.D.S., Long Beach, California; one granddaughter Trinity T.
