Obituary For Curtis Wayne Mitchell, Sr.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., Garden Memorial Park, 8001 Highway 49, Jackson, MS 39209. Curtis Wayne Mitchell, Sr. was born January 12, 1950 in Jackson, Mississippi to the late Steve Mitchell, Sr. and Alice Braxton.

Curtis attended Brinkley High School in Jackson, Mississippi. He also attended Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena, Mississippi and majored in music where he played numerous musical instruments and was especially good with the piano, drums and clarinet.

As a young boy, he played baseball and was an All-Star short stop. As a young man, Curtis became somewhat of a jack of all trades and could fix just about anything electrical. Later in life, it was fitting that his career path led him to become a maintenance technician of which he enjoyed until the start of his illness.

Curtis loved the Lord and joined Shady Grove Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi where he accepted Christ as his savior at an early age. He was well versed and fluent in quoting scripture from the Bible and Quran.

Curtis Wayne Mitchell, Sr. departed this life on March 31, 2021 at Franklin County Memorial Hospital in Meadville, Mississippi. He was about to be discharged the next day from the hospital to return to his home facility in Jackson, Mississippi. But, God intervened and told him to come Home to His House.

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. - Matthew 11:28

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents: Steve Sr and Alice Mitchell, four (4) brothers: McKinley Mitchell, Sr, Henry Mitchell, Sr, Steve Mitchell, Jr and Garrett Mitchell; two (2) sisters: Willie Mae Stubbs and Frankie Lee Roberts.

Curtis leaves to cherish his memories, Four (4) sons: Mujahid El Allah Mu Jahid El Allah (Heavenly) of Los Angeles, California; Arhmad Mitchell of Brandon, MS; Kareem Mitchell, Sr of Jackson, MS; and Jamal Mitchell of Louisiana; one (1) daughter, Clandra Lewis (Lemont); one brother, Ricky Mitchell of Chicago Illinois; three sisters: Annie B Houston (Willie) of Jackson, MS; Doris Smith (John) of Jackson, MS; and Deloris Mitchell of Jackson, MS; fifteen (15) grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
