Dr. Mavritte was a joy to know. As a clerical support person, I had the pleasure of typing medical directives and documents for him at San Diego County MentalHealth. He had the most perfect handwriting! His bubbly positive attitude and disposition was wonderful to be around. Will miss him. Merle Rupp

Dr. Mavritte, Medical Director, was an absolute treasure for San Diego County Mental Health Services. He arrived in San Diego, retiring from LA County Mental Health, after SD experienced grave difficulties with being thrown out of the Medicare program for deficiencies in the operation of SD Hillcrest Mental Health Facility. His knowledgeable and skilled leadership was essential during subsequent years in reestablishing the effectiveness, the reputation and the fiscal solvency of the SD Community Mental Health system. He was an early and ardent supporter of the "Consumer Movement" responsive to those with lived experience and to families of persons with serious mental illness. Likewise, he was enormously supportive and responsive to the staff of CMH. I arrived in San Diego as Hillcrest Mental Health Facility Hospital Administrator in October 1986 and not knowing anyone in SD Harold and his lovely wife Delores invited me to share Thanksgiving with them. Innumerable such acts of kindness and support to everyone--always with a smile and that lilting laugh--stand out in my treasured memories of our working relationship. In 2016 I had opportunity participating with a California Health Improvement Project and a consumer group called Impact Young Adults on a funded project called San Diego's Mental Health History Story Telling Project: Mental Health Legacies to work with a team of consumers interviewing Dr. Mavritte on his long career in community mental heath services. Truly San Diego's current mental health system was built on the shoulders of this giant. Karenlee Robinson

I heard today that Dr. Mavritte passed away in March of this year. He was my clinical supervisor at San Diego County Mental Health for a number of years. Dr. Mavritte was a very honorable man whose memory I treasure. I learned so much from him. His kindness was evident in everything he did. It was a real honor to have known him. Henry Tarke
