Obituary For Mrs. Amanda Elizabeth Rainey Jones

MRS. AMANDA ELIZABETH RAINEY JONES, daughter of the late Lacy G. and Beatrice Walker Rainey was born March 7, 1943 in Mecklenburg County VA and departed this life suddenly March 31, 2021 in VCU-Community Memorial Hospital, South Hill, VA. At an early age she was baptized and confirmed at the former Saint Mary’s Episcopal Church which later became Trinity Episcopal Church. In 1958, being a member of the East End High School Choir, she along with Evelyn Jones, Lucretia Hargrove, Mary Rose Cypress, Kenneth Holloway, James Hutcheson, Norfleet Barnes and Charlie Talley were chosen to participate in the All State Choir at the Southern Regional Music Festival. She was a 1961 graduate of the former East End High School, South Hill, VA. Amanda was married to the late Iris Jones on December 3, 1978. She was employed by the Montgomery County Public School Systems as a Bus Driver until her retirement. Amanda loved music, playing the piano in which she served many churches in the area and in Maryland. After retirement she moved back to her native home, South Hill, VA. Amanda leaves to cherish her memory are two daughters- Crystal Rainey, Fredrick, MD and Helena Rainey, Spartanburg, SC; two grandchildren- Moncello (Michelle) Chavis, Hagerstown, MD and Lekisha Chavis, Fredrick, MD; two great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Chavis, Manassas, VA and Jada Chavis, Hagerstown, MD; one sister- Lily Rainey, South Hill, VA; two brothers- George Rainey, Fredericksburg, VA and Marvin Rainey, South Hill, VA; two sisters-in-law, Gladys Jones, Brodnax, VA and Frances “I V” Jones, South Hill, VA; devoted friends- Reverend Theresa Henderson, Minister Shirley Abdullah, Evangelist Helen Hockey, and Claire Walker, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
