Alvernon Taylor was born on October 3, 1940 to the late Charles Taylor, Sr. and Francis Beatrice Newson in Jackson, Mississippi. He was the youngest of five children born to this union.

Alvernon graduated from Jim Hill High School in Jackson, Mississippi where he formed wonderful long-lasting friendships. In the early 1960’s, Alvernon followed in his older sister Dorothy’s footsteps and moved to Chicago, Illinois where he began working for the U.S. Postal Service. A dedicated and hardworking man, Alvernon’s career advanced and he was promoted to supervisor and held that position until he retired.

After arriving to Chicago, he met and later married Arvelis Byrd on April 27, 1963. Together they had four beautiful children, Tanya, Torrence, Sheryl and Erika.

A loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, Alvernon enjoyed spending time amongst family and friends. Gathering together to enjoy music and good food was something that he looked forward to. He also enjoyed traveling around the country visiting close friends and some of his favorite places.

Alvernon had an undeniable zest for life. He had a great sense of humor, considered the life of the party and last but not least, he was a very dapper dresser and completed every look with a signature hat.

On April 9, 2021, surrounded by love and prayers of his family, Alvernon was called home to be with the Lord.

He was proceeded in death by his brothers Charles D. Taylor, Jr. and Alvin C. Taylor, Sr.
