Obituary For Valerie T. Byrd

Valerie Tawanna Byrd, loving sister, aunt, cousin and friend affectionally known as “Tuttie” and “Baby Sister” passed away peacefully April 13, 2021 at Wesley Long Hospital after a long illness.

She was born February 14, 1956, the third daughter of Jason Monroe Byrd and Rosemary Cochran Byrd at L. Richardson Hospital. Born on Valentine’s Day, she was appropriately named Valerie.

Valerie was educated in the Greensboro City School System now known as Guilford County Schools progressing from Jonesboro Elementary, Lincoln Junior High to James Benson Dudley High where she was a cheerleader, a member of Georgene Dye’s dance group and a proud member of the graduating class of 1974. She furthered her education at Guilford Technical Institute now know as Guilford Technical Community College where she earned an associate degree.

Valerie reaffirmed her faith through the Reverend Miller Carter at Metropolitan United Methodist Church and was on the Pastor Parrish Relations Committee.

Valerie was always a hard worker and was happy to say she retired from The United States Postal Service after 35 years of dedicated service. She became friends with many of those she worked with during her career. Valerie also had a method of doing things and she wanted everything just right. From the car she drove to the home she bought everything was always immaculate and out of all colors to keep clean white was her favorite.

Valerie was a loving and caring person and her friends were always supportive with love. She was always concerned about the well being of others and would help anyone if she could. Remembering and sharing cherished memories are her sisters Sandra Tatum Williams (Edward Williams), Charlotte Renee’ Byrd, niece Lisa Tatum Mitchem, nephew Cody Cochran Byrd, great-niece Cydney Alexandria Brower (David Moats), great-nephew Quentin McCaleb Mitchem (Akhaiya Williamson), and two great great-nephews Sincere Eli Mitchem and David Isaiah Moats, Jr who were the most recent treasures of her life, along with her Cochran cousins whom she loved dearly and her best friend Annette Radcliffe-Mills who was always there in time of need.

Valerie was predeceased by parents Jason and Rosemary Byrd and grand parents Johnny and Clara Cochran and James Sr and Lula Byrd.

With a heavy heart we must say Valerie will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

“SISTERS ARE ALWAYS AND FOREVER!”

To Those I Love and Those Who Love Me By Mary Alice Ramish

When I’m gone, release me, let me go I have so many things to see and do. You mustn’t tie yourself to me with tears, Be happy that we had so many years.

I gave you my love, you can only guess How much you gave to me in happiness. I thank you for the love you each have shown, But now it’s time I traveled alone.

So grieve a while for me, if grieve you must, Then let your grief be comforted by trust. It’s only for a while that we must part, So bless the memories within your heart.

I won’t be far away, for life goes on, So if you need me, call and I will come, And if you listen with your heart, you’ll hear All of my love around you soft and clear, And then, when you must come this way alone, I’ll greet you with a smile and say, Welcome Home.”

A public viewing will be held on Friday, April 23, 2021 from 4pm-6pm in the Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel of Perry J. Brown Funeral Home. A private graveside service honoring her life will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Lakeview Memorial Park.

Services entrusted to Perry J. Brown Funeral Home (336)-272-6109.
