Obituary For L.J. Jelks, Jr.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., Hill of Zion Church Cemetery, Brownsville Road, Bolton, MS 39083.

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; Ecclesiastes 3:1&2a (KJV)

~ A Time to Be Born ~ L.J. Jelks, Jr. was born October 5, 1944 to Mr. L.J. Jelks, Sr. and Mrs. Lucy Etta Robinson Jelks in Hinds County, Bolton, Mississippi.

L.J. confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Hill of Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Bolton, Mississippi.

~ A Time to Plant ~ L.J. received his early education at the Hill of Zion Public School later attending V.L. Reuben Jr. High School both in Bolton, Mississippi.

L.J. was employed with the Jackson Packing Company later becoming the Manager over the Custodial Department at Walmart where he later retired. After retiring, he loved watching tv and working in his yard. He was an all-around friend.

L.J. was united in holy matrimony to the late Gloria Bass Jelks.

~ A Time for Eternal Security ~ On Tuesday, April 13, 2021, the angel of death made an earthly sweep leaving a void in the hearts of his family and friends at Select (5th floor of Baptist Hospital) in Jackson, Mississippi.

L.J. was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Luretha Howard Davis and Velma Jelks Lowe; brother: Albert Jelks and his son: Janerick.

~ A Wonderful Time to Remember ~ L.J.’s memories will live on in our hearts and be cherished by his siblings: Willie Joseph Brooks, Beatrice Jelks, and Ammie Jelks Johnson; a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
