Obituary For Frank Bluntson

Funeral services will be Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., Garden Memorial Park, 8001 Highway 49, Jackson, MS 39209.

Frank Bluntson wore many hats. In addition to being a loving husband, father and grandfather, he was also a driven community leader, educator, administrator, city official, football official and church member. He made his transition at his home on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 leaving a rich legacy of service to Jackson, Miss. and beyond.

Frank Bluntson was born in Clarksdale, Miss. on July 30, 1935 to Elizabeth Proctor Bluntson and Elder Frank Bluntson, Sr. He was the third child in a family of 15 children. His parents, siblings Ossie Lee Bluntson Melton and Viola E. Carter, Stephan Bluntson, and beloved son, Craig, preceded him in death. It was in Clarksdale that Frank met the lovely young teacher, Juanita Stubbs. On November 22, 1962, the two were married and began their life together in Jackson, Miss. Frank joined Cade Chapel Missionary Baptist with Juanita where they were both faithful members until death. The couple had celebrated 54 years of marriage before Juanita's passing in 2016. Though he would later be known for his leadership and community service in Mississippi's capital city, those qualities started when he was a student back in Clarksdale. He was Higgins High School's Student Government Association President his senior year and chose to start college there in his hometown. Frank earned an associate degree from Coahoma Junior College in 1958 before moving on to Mississippi Industrial College in Holly Springs, Miss. where he earned a bachelor's degree. Frank would continue his education receiving a master's degree in education from Jackson State University in 1973 and pursuing additional study at Mississippi State University and Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning Research and Development Center. Frank put those teachings to use, often focusing his efforts towards children in trouble. He taught at Hull Junior High School and Mary C. Jones School before serving as a youth counselor with Youth Court and an employee with the Mississippi Department of Youth Services. His leadership at Central Mississippi Health Services resulted in indigent and uninsured populations receiving much needed healthcare. Frank's talents led him to start one of the city's longest running radio programs in 1975. Straight Talk became more than a place for politicians and community members to discuss the happenings of the times. It was yet another opportunity to serve. Partnering with the station, Frank started the Craig Bluntson Senior Citizen Food Drive. With great community support thousands of seniors across the city received Christmas food baskets. His desire to serve even more people led him to run for Jackson City Council in 2005 where he served two terms ending in 2012. Frank's work did not go unnoticed. On July 11, 2017, the Jackson Police Department presented him with its Lifetime Achievement Award. His idea of a good time often involved football and officiating. For more than 40 years, he called games with the Mississippi High School Activities Association and close to 30 years with the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). While Frank enjoyed many public accomplishments, his personal joy came from being a father, grandfather and great grandfather. His legacy will continue through his family: his sons, Frank Bluntson Strong of Houston, Texas and Eric "Chucky" Bluntson of Jackson; daughters Marilyn Lilly of Las Vegas and Letha Stubbs Gilmore of Houston, Texas; grandchildren: Cherise Brown of Las Vegas, Kayla Ellerson (Steven) of Chicago and Connor Bluntson of Jackson: great grandchildren: Christien Lilly Alexander, Malia Brown, Steven Ellerson III and Eden Ellerson; siblings Andrew Winston of Tallahassee, Fla., Rachel Daniels of Port St. Lucie, Michael Bluntson of West Palm Beach, Elizabeth (Joe) Jackson of Davenport, Fla., Edward (Brenda) Bluntson of Port St. Lucie, Cliff Bluntson of West Palm Beach, Fla., Joe (Diana) Bluntson in Orlando, Timothy (Madelyn) Bluntson of Lauderdale, Fla., Johnathan Bluntson of West Palm Beach, Fla., Marian Wingate of West Palm Beach, Frank T Bluntson of West Palm Beach and Frank E. (Chenice) Thompson in Orlando; stepmother Lula Mae White Bluntson; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Bluntson; a special daughter, Loretta Brown of Brandon, Miss.; a special son, James Williams of Jackson, Miss. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Sending our Love and prayers to Sis. Marilyn Lilly and the Bluntson Family. Every believer in Christ has been encouraged to know that even in our time of sorrow we have hope, for since we believe Christ died and rose again, even so shall those who die in Him rise again. "For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, and house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens". II Corinthians 5:1 Be encouraged, we love you Sister Marilyn Lilly and family. Elder Melvin H. Washington Tabernacle of Praise Church Christian Education Department Las Vegas, Nevada

Is there anything too hard for God? "Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort, who comforted us in all our tribulations, that we may be able to comfort them which are in trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God". II Cor. 1:2,3. Pastor Michael & Lady Kathy Jackson and the Tabernacle of Praise Church family, wish to express our love and the deep sympathy we feel toward Sis. Marilyn Lilly and the Bluntson family at the passing of your father Mr. Frank Bluntson. Please know that we regret not being able to be present with you during this difficult time, but you are in our thoughts and prayers and we share your grief in this season of bereavement. We pray that the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus and may God, who is rich in mercy, bless you to know more fully the love of Christ, as you deal with this time of sorrow. We love you Sister Marilyn Lilly and may the peace of God be with you always. Humbly submitted, Pastor Michael E. Jackson, Sr. Tabernacle of Praise COGIC Las Vegas, Nevada
