Mr. Gibbs was born in Macon, GA to the parentage of the late Burke and Ruth Horne Gibbs. He was educated in the Bibb County School System. He joined the U.S. Navy and later served in the Reserves. He was retired from Robins AFB.

Survivors include: wife, Sybil J. Gibbs; son, Brian K. (Sarah) Gibbs; sister, Florence Cheeves; devoted nieces; Karla Worthy and Marcia Oglesby; other relatives and friends.
