Obituary For Mary Elizabeth Jemison

A celebration of life honoring Mary Elizabeth Jemison will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 23, 2021, at Antioch Church Cemetery. Reverend Van T. Welch will officiate the celebration and Reverend Robert L. Duncan will deliver the eulogy. Visitation for Mrs. Jemison will be held 1:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 22, 2021.

On October 24, 1922, Mr. Will Moten and Mrs. Zealor Garrett Moten of Talladega welcomed a daughter, Mary Elizabeth, to their growing family.

Many years ago, Mrs. Jemison confessed that Jesus Christ was her Lord and Savior. She committed her service and worship to Peace Missionary Baptist Church where she was bestowed the duty, of being among many things, a deaconess and blessed with the honor of being a church mother.

On Saturday, April 17, 2021, Mrs. Jemison was quietly called home to be with the Lord at her residence. She was welcomed to Glory by her husband, Raymond Howard Jemison; her parents, Will and Zealor Moten; five sisters, Florence Moten, Rosetta Strown, Delola Moten, Enetta Wells and Bettye Shirel; and three brothers, Alford Moten, John Moten, Sr. and William Moten, II.

Mrs. Jemison leaves to celebrate her life: a sister, Lezell McGhee of Detroit, Michigan; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Rest in peace and rise in Glory, sweet Mary. She helped us raise our daughter Marti and helped raise my husband Jack. We helped her get her first drivers license. She was very very loved! We never missed talking at Christmas and Easter every year. We miss you. Anne and Jack Evans

Aunt Mary, as we affectionately knew her, was one of the aunts who was there for us when we lost our mother, Roszitta. We enjoyed spending time with her and will always cherish our memories of the last couple of Thanksgivings (2018 & 2019) we shared with her. We were blessed for her to see us have our own families and our children grew up knowing just how special she was to our family. Aunt Mary, you will be sorely missed. ~ Love your nieces & nephews, The Strowns
