MRS. EDNA LAVERNE HITE JONES HINES affectionately called LaVerne was born January 22, 1953 in Mecklenburg County, VA to the late Lewis Hite, Sr. and the late Agnes Jackson Hite and departed this life April 20, 2021 in MCV-VCU Hospital, Richmond, VA. At an early age she was baptized and joined Bethel Memorial RZUA Church. She attended the Mecklenburg County Public Schools. LaVerne was employed by Burlington Mills and later for LaCrosse Sportswear until they closed their doors. LaVerne was married to Roosevelt Jones in 1971 and to this union three children were born- Shelia, Angela, and Demond. Later she married George Edward Hines, and to that union one child, Agnes, was born. LaVerne was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend; loved by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed. LaVerne leaves to mourn: her husband, George “Chicken” Hines of the home; four children- Shelia (Willie) Jiggetts; Angela “Tina” (Roosevelt Brian) Rogers, all of South Hill, VA; Demond Lamont (Mary) Jones, Philadelphia, PA, and Agnes Renae Jones, South Hill, VA; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; step-father, Will Holmes, South Hill, VA; five sisters- Brenda Macklin, Alice Elaine Goodrich, and Marilyn Denise Hite, all of South Hill, VA; Janet Hite Jones, Brodnax, VA; and Norma Jean Winn, Kenbridge, VA; one brother- Barry (Sharon) Hite, South Hill, VA; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Hite, South Hill, VA and Joyce (Leon) Kennedy, Lawrenceville, VA; one brother-in-law, William Hines, Lawrenceville, VA; three aunts- Harriett Harris, South Hill, VA; Mary Bell Gibson, New York, NY, and Evelyn Jackson, South Hill, VA; two uncles- Lander Hendrick, Sr., South Hill, VA and Michael Jackson, Skipwith, VA; Godchild- Christopher Jackson, South Hill, VA; three devoted friends- Elaine Smith, Jocelyn Jiggetts, both of South Hill, VA, and Danny Jones, Lawrenceville, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
