Obituary For Hattie Mae Preer Jones

Mrs. Hattie Mae PreerJones, 82, of Phenix City, AL passed Wednesday, April 28, 2021 in McDonough, GA.

Funeral service will be held 12 noon EST, Tuesday, May 4, 2021 in the C.T. Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Jesse Grooms, officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel A.M.E. Church cemetery. Visitation is Monday, May 3, 2021 from 1 - 5 p.m. EST according to Taylor Funeral Home, Inc.

Hattie Mae (Flat) Preer Jones, was born on October 10, 1938, to the late Annie Mae Jackson Preer and the late Johnnie Preer, in Phenix City, Alabama.

She was the eldest of three siblings, sister, Shirley Preer Cunningham of Atlanta, GA and brother, John Henry Preer, Sr. (Sylvia) of Phenix City, AL.

Hattie was known as one of the most loving, considerate, dependable and giving person in the Brickyard/Hike community. Hattie departed this earthly life on April 27, 2021, in McDonough, Georgia. Hattie was educated in Russell County public school system and Columbus Technical School of Cosmetology.

At an early age, Hattie accepted Christ as her personal Savior at Bethel A.M.E. Church, under the pastorate of Rev. Davis. She continued to serve under the Pastoral leadership of the late Rev. Z.D. Hardwick and Rev. J.W. Ezekiel, Rev. J.L. Walton and the current leadership of Rev. Jesse Grooms. She loved the Lord, her Bethel A.M.E. Church family and Pastor Grooms and First Lady Amanda Grooms. Her church affiliations were President of the Choir, a member of the Usher Board, and Hospitality Committee. On January 2, 1955.

She married the love of her life, Tommie C. Jones, Sr. Her love for her husband was immeasurable, unconditional, and unending.Their union of 66 years was blessed with 9 children. "Hattie "Mul" as she was affectionately called, life revolved around her deep love for her family.

Hattie was preceded in death by her parents, infant Cherise Jones and Belinda Jones-Jennings.

Survivors who will forever cherish her memories are: Jessie M. Cotman (Ken) of Richmond, VA; Cynthia Jones of Phenix City, AL; Kathy Jones-Collins (Artis) of Stone Mtn, GA; Tommie C. Jones, Jr. (Rebecca) of Phenix City, AL; Vinson Jones (Amy) of Columbus, GA; Ret. Sgt. Major Darrin Jones (Lisa) of Fortson, GA; Corey J. Jones (Jessica) of McDonough, GA; sister Shirley Preer Cunningham of Atlanta, GA and brother John Henry Preer, Sr. (Sylvia) of Phenix City, AL; 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law Dorothy Jones Harris of Paterson N.J.; aunt Estella Jackson of Columbus, GA; a special cousin, Victoria Long Roy and a special family friend, A.J. Hightower of Atlanta, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, mother-in-law, cousin, and friend.

She was a great listener and possessed the spirit of servitude. Matthew 20:28 NIV, Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve. She visited the sick and was a caregiver for her grandmother and uncle, fed the hungry, and visited the incarcerated. Matthew 25:40 NIV, Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. Hattie years of employment were spent as a cosmetologist, Bethel A.M.E. Church and Southern Management (CB&T) custodian, Bibb Manufacturing, Columbus Foundry, and the inherited business of her father, Johnnie Preer Grocery. She touched many lives on her journey.

I was truly blessed to have known "Flat". She was always wearing a smile and was willing to listen and help whenever asked. She made the absolute BEST sweet potato pies and I will always cherish the memories. To the family, always remember the good times and know that she is always with in in your hearts. I loved this woman she was a sweet, sweet spirit. I remember when I was a little girl she would always feed me right along with her children, she treated me like I was one of her own, and I will never forget that.
