Obituary For Dorothy Mae Salley Jamison

Dorothy Mae Salley Jamison was affectionately known as “Dot” by her siblings and “Momma Dot” by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was born on December 11, 1931 in Cope, South Carolina to the late John Alexander Salley and the late Thelma Busby. Dorothy departed this life in hospice at Piedmont Regional Hospital in Athens, Georgia during an extended visit with her daughter, Dianne, on Thursday, April 22, 2021. Dorothy was preceded in death by her late husband of 38 years, Jeremiah Jamison, Sr.

Dorothy accepted Christ at an early age at Canaan United Methodist Church in Cope, South Carolina where she served as a long-term faithful member, dedicated member of the Adult Usher Board, and United Methodist Women. Dorothy received the following honors as a member at Canaan United Methodist Church: Woman of the Year Award, Church Mother of the Year Award, and Golden Senior Certificate.

Dorothy started her formal education in what was known as Right Elementary School House in Cope, South Carolina. Dorothy earned her GED from Orangeburg County School District. During her life, Dorothy worked as a housekeeper for a local family, employee at Rhodes Cleaners, information clerk at the Orangeburg Hospital, salesclerk at Jays Record Store, file clerk for Dr. Edwin Eargle, and a file clerk for Dr. Smoak at the Edisto Family Practice in Orangeburg, South Carolina before she retired. As a pastime, Dorothy loved working in her garden, sewing, cooking and baking. Dorothy loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly. She raised one great grandchild (Joshua) in the home and was active in the Whittaker Elementary School PTO and supported other grands in the Nix Elementary School PTO.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory, eight siblings. Janie Williams, Orangeburg; Johnnie Mae Hampton (Dennis); Hinesville, Georgia; Thelma M. Salley, Brooklyn, New York; Robert Salley, Savannah, Georgia; William Salley, Orangeburg; Sylvester Salley, Bridgeport, Connecticut; Linda Salley, Jamacia, New York; Larry Salley, Cope; three children: Dianne S. Campbell (James), Athens, Georgia; Maricie S. McDaniel, Orangeburg; and Matthew Sanders, Brooklyn, New York; 7 grandchildren (Tanika Thomas, Meosha McDaniel, Sophia Campbell, Ashlea Carter (Derrick), Miguel McDaniel (Joy), James E. Campbell III (Trey), and Avery Armstrong); 5 great grandchildren (Kaleb Thomas, Joshua Thomas, Matthew Thomas, Maddox Geathers, and William Derrick Carter, III): James Harrison (brother-in-law), Orangeburg; and a host of family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Thelma Salley; three siblings Maggie Salley, Lula Carolina Harrison, and Brinder Kay Salley Stevenson; one brother-in-law, Matthew Williams, and one sister-in-law, Wanda Salley.

Dorothy’s strength came from her faith in God and her favorite scripture Psalm 23. Her favorite songs were I Can’t Give Up by Lee Williams and We’ve Come This Far By Faith by Albert Goodson. Her motto was “Treat People The Way You Want To Be Treated. Talk To People The Way You Want To Be Talked To. Respect Is Earned, Not Given.

A viewing for Mrs. Jamison will be held on Sunday, May 2, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Gardenview Funeral Chapel the family will be present from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Glover's Funeral Home Chapel 2562 Charleston Highway, Orangeburg, SC 29115. Interment will follow in Belleville Memorial Gardens 4830 Columbia Road ,Orangeburg, SC 29115.
