Irving L. Mills

Tallahassee - Irving L. Mills, Jr., died Friday, April 30, 2021, in Tallahassee, Florida, at the age of 79.

Family will receive friends Friday, May 14, 11:00 A.M., at the chapel of the Strong & Jones Funeral Home the memorial service will follow at 12:00 noon.

Irving, a resident of Tallahassee, Florida, was the son of the late Vera Mae Ford Mills and Irving L. Mills, Sr. He graduated from Florida A&M University High School, Florida A&M University and Florida A&M University College of Law. His professional career embraced his deep interest in legal studies, politics and people. Irving began his professional career as law librarian and lecturer at the Florida A&M University College of Law. Until his retirement, he continued to serve his alma mater in various positions, including Assistant Vice President and Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, Law Enforcement Investigator and Student Affairs Coordinator.

Irving was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Tallahassee, Florida. He also enjoyed participating in a number of social and civic organizations, including a life-member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., 100 Blackmen of Tallahassee, Inc., 220 Quarterback Club and Frontiers International, Inc. Irving's love for the theatre was nurtured beginning in elementary school grew as he attended high school, college and continued through his support of the FAMU Essential Theater Productions.

Irving is survived by his wife, Sandra Jackson Mills; three sons, of whom he was extremely proud, Ashley Mills of Del Rio, Texas, Marcus Jon Mills (Mamie) of Orlando and Justin Mills (Jakara) of Tallahassee; his greatest joy was his four grandsons, Kian, Malachi, Majave and Lucas; he was looking forward to the arrival of the fifth grandchild; his step sister, Barbara Black;

Irving will also be missed by other family members and friends.
