Jacques Shy

He was born on October 25, 1951 in New York City. He grew up on Long Island, NY and attended South Side High School. He attended Fredericks Beauty School where he received his Cosmetology License. He was self-employed, owning his own hairstyling business for over 46 years. For the past 20 years he specialized in Medical Cosmetology, focusing primarily on patient haircare at Duke Hospital in Durham, NC and UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC.
Jacques was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. His compassion for others was evidenced by his being the caretaker for his younger brother, Jean Pierre Shy, who proceeded him in death January 6, 2021. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Darlene Shy; his father, Jimmy Maurice Shy; and his mother, Shirley May Shy.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sarah Jane Shy of Durham; two sons, Jacques Armound Shy, II of Los Angeles, CA and Terence John Shy of Durham, NC; three grandchildren, Zhanii Ny'cole Colon, Terence Zakai Shy and Zeno Jacques Shy all of Durham, NC; three brothers, Etienne S. Shy of Westbury, NC and wife Peggy, Adre F. Shy of Wilmington, NC and wife Joanne Shy and Antionne M. Shy of Daytona Beach Shores, FL; five nieces, Angela Shy, Yolanda Harris, Nicole Caldon, Danelle Casquarelli and Sabra Dunn; five nephews, John Shy, Benjamin Shy, Michael Shy,, Jamison Shy and Daryl Moore; four great nieces, eight great nephews and two great great nieces.
A Celebration Of Life will be held Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 1:00 pm in the chapel of American Cremation & Funeral Service.
