Mr. Goforth was employed with P.P.G. for 33 years and retired with Perfect Attendance not having missed a day’s work. He was a mechanic by nature and could fix anything. He enjoyed lending a helping hand to his neighbors and friends with his gift.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Victoria “Vickie” Goforth; brothers, John “Jack” Goforth, Roy Goforth and Brodus Goforth; two sisters, Virginia Byrd and Clementine Surratt and a special aunt, Ola Mae Harris.
He leaves to cherish fond memories to his wife of 55 years, Betty Jean Goforth; his children, Merry Oates (Gregory), Wilma Goforth and Scott Goforth, Jr. all of Shelby; one brother, Clyde Goforth (Nettie) of Kingstown, NC; Nettie Odoms of Hickory, NC; his grandchildren, Rayshun Goforth, Victoria Goforth, Antonio Goforth and Perez Goforth who all grew up in the home and Gregory Oates and Quavis Oates; great-grandchildren, Raylen, Rayna, Jada, Veronica, Elijah, Janayla, Gracelyn and one great-grandchild on the way; two special sisters-in-law, Annie Ruth Goforth and Kathleen Goforth; additional sisters-in-law, Rosie Whitstone, Agnes Dockery and Mabel Hill; two brothers-in-law, Eddie Hill and Thomas Hill and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Goforth will be private. The service will be livestreamed starting at 3:15 PM on Saturday, May 8, 2021. He can be viewed from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel. The family will be receiving friends from 3:00 PM until 3:30 PM at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel on Saturday. Burial will take place at Bethlehem Temple Church Cemetery.
