Obituary For Bruce Johnson

A celebration of life for Mr. Bruce Johnson of Talladega, 65, will be 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 10, 2021, at Terry's Mortuary Chapel. Dr. Matthew Leonard will deliver the eulogy. Interment will be in Antioch Church Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Johnson will be from 1-6 p.m. on Sunday, May 9, 2021.

On Saturday, September 24, 1955, in Talladega, Alabama, Ollie Johnson, Jr. and Bobbie Gooden Johnson Wynn welcomed a son that would one day be known as MGySgt (Ret.) Bruce Johnson. Mr. Johnson dedicated his life to Christ and united in faith with Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where he one day found his ministry in music by playing the bongos for the choir. He was educated in Atlanta, Georgia and was a member of the 1974 graduating class of Samuel Howard Archer High School. During his time in high school, he participated in the ROTC program which sparked his interested in the military. On August 1, 1974, Bruce began his highly decorated career in the United States Marine Corp (USMC). During his time in the USMC, Bruce earned such honors as the National Defense Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Rifle Expert Badge and Pistol Sharpshooter Badge among many others. After retirement, Bruce decided to continue his education at ITT Technical Institute. Once his degree was completed, Bruce began another career path working in the technology department for Talladega College. When Bruce found leisure time, he enjoyed fishing and improving his skills in golf. On the evening of Tuesday, May 4, 2021, after dealing with failing health Bruce answered the call of his Lord and Savior at Citizens Baptist Medical Center. He was preceded in passing by his wife, Christine Johnson; his parents, Ollie Johnson, Jr. and Bobbie Wynn; and two brothers, Quentin Johnson and Robert Johnson. He leaves to cherish his memories: three sisters, Angela (Sanford) Swain of Talladega, Alabama, Anjanette Ferguson of Midfield, Alabama and Brittany Wynn of Talladega, Alabama; six brothers, Eric (Dorothy) Johnson, Michael (Mary) Gooden, Ernest (Angela) Johnson, Darius (Tameka) Johnson all of Talladega, Alabama, Darryl (Juanita) Johnson of Birmingham, Alabama and Antonio Johnson of Atlanta, Georgia; one stepbrother, Willie (Glenda) Wynn of Gadsden, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cousin Bruce always came to my rescue when Angela and Bev and and all the rest dem cuzzos were teasing and made me cry but my joy comes when I know you and my Father will be waiting for my arrival in that Great getting up morning to celebrate Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. ~Angela DeeDee Ernest Michael and Eric I wish that I could be in Alabama right now with you. Rest in peace Bruce. I didn't realize that when I talked to you about the passing of your wife that it would be the last time talking to you. We grew up together and you were always a sweet loving person. I will miss seeing you when I come back to Alabama. You will be missed.
