Rev. John A. Lockhart

Augusta, GA—Reverend John A. Lockhart entered into rest on Friday, April 30, 2021 at AU Health Medical Center, in Augusta, GA. Graveside services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Mt. Olive Memorial Gardens, Augusta, GA with Rev. Kenneth B. Martin officiating. Mask and social distancing will be observed. Public viewing will be held, Friday, May 7, 2021 from 3 pm to 5 pm at W.H. Mays Mortuary 1221 James Brown Boulevard Augusta, GA.

Rev. Lockhart was a native of Louisville, GA and moved to Augusta, GA early in life. He was a proud graduate of Lucy C. Laney High School class of 1959. He served briefly in the military before returning home to attend Augusta Tech. He retired from Proctor and Gamble after 31 years and never missed a day of work. He was later called into the ministry and studied at the American Baptist Theology Seminary receiving a diploma in Christian Training. He also received a Bachelor of Theology degree from Andersonville Baptist Seminary. He was an associate pastor at the Antioch Baptist Church and retired as the pastor of the Fellowship Baptist Church in 2020 after 16 years of devoted service.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Gertrude Lockhart; his four children, Vince (Dr. Terri) Lockhart, Martinez, GA, Loleevee (Freddie) Brown, Lorenzo Lockhart, all of Augusta, GA, and Dr. Lutricia (Kenny) Parkman, of North Augusta, SC; his ten grandchildren, Nicole, Jala, Simone, John, Xavier, Miles, Leah, Jenae, Kimberly, and Kendall; his two great-grandchildren, Novia and Kayden; his four sisters, Berlinda (Henry) Stevens, Jeanette (Thomas Lee) Hawkins, all of Augusta, GA, Tijuana Shivers-Stanley, and Katherine Lockhart, Miami FL; one brother, Larry Lockhart, Miami, FL; his sister in-law, Daisy Thurmond, Clarks Hill, SC; his brother in-laws, Rev. Eugene Waltower, Michael Tanksley, Ramsey Jones, Moses (Sheila) Jones; all of Augusta, GA, Luther (Rosa Lee) Jones, Appling, GA; his godchildren, Victor Sullivan Jr., Bradley Jones, Breanka Williams, and Cornelious Bryant all of Augusta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that he loved dearly.
