Obituary For Ben Charles "Bennie" Evans

Public viewing for Ben Evans, 82, of Opelika, Alabama, will be Saturday, May 8, 2021, from 2: 00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home, 515 South 6th Street, Opelika, Alabama 36801.

Mr. Evans, who passed away Thursday, April 29, 2021 at the Bethany House in Auburn, AL, was born December 12, 1938 in Lee County, Alabama.

“Bennie” as he was known to everyone, confessed Christ at an early age and united with Ferguson Chapel C.M.E. Church in Opelika, Alabama. He retired from West Point Stevens after more than thirty years of service

He leaves to cherish his memory: three children, Rachael Robinson of Jonesboro, GA, Eldred Hugley and Timothy Evans both of Opelika, AL; three special godsons, Douglas Shermaine Robinson of Opelika, AL, Andrew (Shauna) Robinson of Arkansas and Montavious Robinson of Atlanta, GA; four sisters, Annette Evans of Opelika, AL, Shirley Warrior of Fayetteville, GA, Jean Morris and Lisa Evans both of Alexander City, AL; six brothers, Frankie (Mary) Evans, Danny (Rebecca) Evans, Tommy L. Evans, Leon Evans all of Camp Hill, AL, Sam (Titalium) Evans of Goodwater, AL and Ronnie Evans of Alexander City, AL; four sisters-in-law, Minnie R. Evans, Rose (Harold) Strickland, Martha (Willie) Finley all of Opelika, AL and Jimmie R. Bradwell of Atlanta, GA; two brothers-in-law, Eddie Lee Robinson of Atlanta, GA and George Douglas Robinson of Opelika, AL; twelve grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

CDC recommends that people wear cloth face coverings in public settings when around people outside of their household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.

My condolences to the family of my friend Bennie Charles. He's one of the original Golden Echoes gospel group of which I was lead vocalist. We had good times together and PETE will remain in our memories. Keep that tenor voice going up there.
