Obituary For Gilbert M. Horne, Jr.

Gilbert M. Horne, Jr., 83, of 5th St., Martinsville, VA, departed this life on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at Stanleytown Health and Rehab. He was born in Washington, D.C. on July 21, 1937, the son of the late Gilbert M. Horne, Sr., and the late Antoinette M. Horne. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Fontaine Horne; and his sister, Anita Harris.

Gilbert was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church, where he was an Elder, Liturgist, a member of the Men's Council, and a member of the Men's Choir. He retired from E.I. Dupont after 38 years of service, and worked as a Inmate Family Clerk for the Martinsville City Sheriffs Department for twenty-two years.

Gilbert was a United States Army Veteran, and a member of the American Legion Homer Dillard Post 78. He was also a Mason, serving in the Sons of Solomon #111, a Shriner, serving in the KuWat Temple #126, and a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Gilbert leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter, Dr. Kathy R.H. ( Herman) Frazier of Kernersville, NC; one son, Lt. Colonel- Retired Kenneth R. (Tonia) Horne of Greensboro, NC; five grandchildren, Brian Horne, Alyssa Horne, Ashley Horne, Justin Frazier, and Karmen Frazier; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at 11 A.M. at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home with Pastor Kelvin Perry, Eulogist. Burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens. A public viewing will be held on Monday, May 17, 2021 at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 P.M. until 5 P.M. In accordance with the CDC, a face covering, and social distancing is required.

He Told..My Co/Worker and I That He was..The Personnel Manager at DuPont and to fill out an application and He would hire us and He stood up for his..Word! I always gave him that credit and flowers for taking care of his people! Always such a Great Guy!
