Obituary For Matthew Aaron Willford

Matthew Aaron Willford, 41, of York, PA completed his earthly journey on May 8, 2021 in the peace and love of his home surrounded by family. He was born in Harrisburg, son of Betty (Simmons) Grier and Aaron Willford, Jr., was a 1999 graduate of Susquehanna Township High School and during his working career, he worked in the customer service and manufacturing fields. He was an employee of Dayton Parts in Harrisburg until he became ill. At an early age, Matthew, along with his mother, attended the Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Charles Meile, Jr. He participated in the Youth Ministry and enjoyed singing with his friends on the Youth Choir, where he could often be heard leading songs and singing solos. Matthew’s love for performing carried over into his adult life, as he became a popular hip-hop artist and traveled with several local groups, writing and performing his own music and entertaining crowds with his ability to tell a story in a way that you thought you were living it. This gift earned him the moniker, “Metafor” or “Metty” for short. Along with his love for music, Matthew enjoyed spending time watching movies with his children and beating them at video games. He was also was a huge sports fan, and enjoyed playing basketball and rooting for his beloved Chicago Bulls and Philadelphia Eagles. Matthew was known for his strong will, determination and independent spirit. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, George and Inez Simmons and his paternal grandmother, Scenella McDaniel. He leaves to cherish memories of him, the Loves of His Life, his son, Tychicus and daughter, Ishalay Willford; his parents; Betty Grier of Harrisburg and Reverend Dr. Aaron and Jean Willford of York; his siblings, DeWitt Brown and wife, Erica; Anita Willford, Erin Skipworth and husband, Radee, all of York, as well as Yesca Bryan and Kezia Brown; companion, Camillya Taylor and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. Matthew’s life will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary of The Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 212 N. Progress Avenue, Harrisburg, PA, with viewing 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and burial in William Howard Cemetery. COVID-19 Guidelines will be observed with face masks and social distancing for all attendees. Live Streaming of the service will be available on Greater Zion’s YouTube page.
