Sylvia Maybin Johnson was born in Spartanburg, SC on September 9, 1942 and went home to be with the Lord on May 14, 2021.

She was a long-time member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.

Ms. Johnson was a proud graduate of Carver High School, Class of 1960. She received an Associate Degree from Durham Business College.

Sylvia retired from Cryovac Division of W.R. Grace & Company and Marriott International. Most recently, she was employed with Spartanburg County School District Six.

She was a member of Roberta Liberty #133 Order of the Eastern Star and Zeta Amicae of Spartanburg.

Ms. Johnson was preceded in death by: her mother, Myrtle Wilkins; her brothers, Clarence and Isaiah Maybin; and her sisters, Katherine Lee-Bey and Martha Scurry.

She is survived by: her son, Daniel Y. Shelton, III; three granddaughters, Madison Y. Shelton-Carter of Spartanburg, SC, Samantha Ann Magner and Hailey Blair Magner both of Lyman, SC; nine nephews, Rodney C. Maybin, Jr. (Patricia) of Randallstown, MD, Troy Maybin of Catonsville, MD, Isaiah Maybin, Jr. of Boiling Springs, SC, Kenneth Maybin of Inman, SC, 1SG (Ret) Timothy Maybin (Sonya) of Fountain Inn, SC, Darryl Maybin of Spartanburg, SC, Kelvin Maybin of Spartanburg, SC, James Scurry of Spartanburg, SC and Gene Gist of Spartanburg, SC; six nieces, 1SG (Ret) Kimberly Maybin Styles (Timothy) of Blythewood, SC, Tracy Johnson of Grenville, SC, Yvonne Scurry of Spartanburg, SC, Juanita Carson (Gregory) of Inman, SC, Mabel Lee-Bey of Spartanburg, SCand Genise Onwuka of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and close friends.

A Celebration of the Life of Sylvia Maybin Johnson will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 12:00 noon at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, 445 S. Church St., Spartanburg, SC.

The family will receive friends today, Friday, May 21, 2021 at: 128 Martello St., Moore, SC.
