She attended Ridgeway Virginia Elementary school then Henry County Training School for one year of High School in Martinsville, Virginia. She obtained a C.N.A. She worked in the Douglass School Cafeteria for 3 years. She was employed at Spray Cotton Mill in Eden for 27 years. She took a few years off to help her sister Inez now deceased to care for her mother before returning to work. Afterwards she worked for the Rockingham County Council on Aging for 18 years. She retired to then become the caregiver for her husband until he passed.

She leaves to mourn one brother, Henry Scales and his wife Mary of Martinsville, VA, one sister-in-law, Dorothy Broadnax, three children, Barbara B. She loved all of the in-laws of her children and grandchildren with a special fondness for Marty’s wife Mo who would get up at 6am in the morning with her. She also was fond of her special niece Clara Cathleen Blackstock who became her caregiver. She had many nieces, nephews and cousins that she was close to on both sides of her family.

We truly loved the Matriarch of our family with all of her quips, advice and fondness for us that she had. She will never be forgotten in our minds or hearts.

Aunt Earlene was a strong presence in our my family and the church family of New Bethel Progressive Primitive Baptist Church. When I pastored there for 11 years, she made me and my family feel special. She was always concerned about our well-being and would always tell me she enjoyed the message. My life is the better because she was part of it. I am the pastor, preacher, and person I am today, because I was able to encounter such a wonderful soul. She will be forever missed by my family and I. Elder Jacques A. Moody & Family
