I was a student there between 1990-1993, he did not pull any punches when it came to the discipline and academics of the students, you know why? Because he wanted us students to succeed in life, and I see what he was trying to do since I am an educator. Mr. Duncombe will be truly missed. Mrs. Tamika Hawkins Graves

To the Family of Rev. Dr. Farrell J. Duncombe: Rev. Dr. Farrell Duncombe was a "Giant" in his Home, a "Giant' in the Community, an "Outstanding" Band Director: Leader, Mentor/Counselor, and a "Giant' in the Church. He was a "Prolific" Preacher and Pastor who won many souls for the Kingdom of God. I have so many fond memories of Rev. Dr. Farrell Duncombe who was my band director in the symphonic, concert, and marching bands of Sidney Lanier High School from 1975-1978 as a flute player. His professionalism and leadership is unmatched and my heart was deeply saddened to hear of his loss. He was also a Great Friend to the entire Handy Family as he and his family ministered to our family in the loss of my father. To Mrs. Juanita Duncombe, Farrell J., and Djuana please know that you are in my heart and in my prayers as you mourn the loss of such a great husband and father. Hold fast to the wonderful memories that you shared now and in the days ahead. We do mourn, but we do not mourn as those who have no hope. Rev. Handy, M.Div., Pastor of St. Mark Temple A.M.E. Zion Church (Indianapolis, Indiana)

Even though I did not know Mr. and Reverend Farrell J. Duncombe very well personally, I remember hearing of his popularity, skills and accolades as a famous Montgomery, Alabama-based Band Director---decades ago, now. In later years, our paths crossed at several funerals of extended family members. He would often so kindly ask: "Are you doing ok?" in such a comforting, Pastoral, compassionate and caring manner, especially in that setting!! I remember his participation at a Special Program at The Dexter King Memorial Baptist Church (DAKMBC), some years ago, now, honoring our current Church organist, Mrs. Althea Thompson Thomas. In addition to both of them being known and celebrated as "world-class" musicians, he shared precious memories of their years of work experiences together, primarily related to their years of service at The Booker T. Washington High School, here in Montgomery, Alabama. My most recent remembrance of him was listening intently, sorrowfully and carefully, as he delivered the Eulogy of an another extended family member, Mr. David C. Ross Jr. In closing, May he be eternally remembered, honored and celebrated for his unselfish gifts of time, talent, and treasure(s) and his many acts of kindness, at the most appropriate time(s) over the years. FOREVERMORE AND AMEN FOR NOW. Respectfully and Lovingly, Ms. Bobbetta Jones, MSPH Career Health Professional, Retired Educator and DEXTERITE, Chairperson for Health and Wellness at The Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church

May God Almighty, Himself, comfort, support and sustain---as only He can do---the remaining members of The Reverend Farrell J. Duncombe Family. It is often at a time of sorrow and loss, such as this, that we must consider, contemplate on and remember that: "Earth hath no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal." May the Love, Comfort and Support of Family---on ALL LEVELS---and Friends---in this community and in ALL the communities where he so unselfishly, nobly and faithfully served, show themselves to be as faithful to you as he was to them!!! Respectfully and Lovingly, Ms. Bobbetta Jones, MSPH on Behalf of The Deacon Robert Fulton Jones and Mrs. Myrtle Pless Jones Family

To the family I express sincerest condolences for your loss but I also say to you all..we will all embark upon this journey one day. I pray for your peace and understanding of "thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven" knowing God will always have His way, we merely have to Accept His will be done! Mr. Duncombe was my band director at BTW back in 1967-1969 I was in the Mighty Marching 100's Yellow Jackets Band, the Concert Band, and the Symphony Band because of Mr.Duncombe's ability to recognize I had "potential" at 11 years old I was one of the youngest members of the band at that age til 13 years old. BTW closed when busing started so I had to go to Lee HS. He will be greatly missed; I had the greatest respect for his talents and abilities to take our band to state championships; may he rest in peace. Thanks to the family for sharing such a great man with our community! God Bless each of you. ~Cynthia Y Boykin-Bracken Scott Clark

My sincere condolences to the family of the late Rev. Farrell Duncombe. His impact on my life began at age fourteen at the old Cascade Swimming pool in the Belaire Community. Farrell and his brother Henry were among some of the best friends that I made while cooling off in one of the only two swimming pools open for Blacks in Montgomery at the time. Over the years we enjoyed reminiscing and reflecting on how far we had come in our professional lives since then. His life was a gift to the City of Montgomery. His intellectual skills were shared throughout the City. His favorite poem was Abou Ben Adhem and his friendship was a treasure for me. Well done, good and faithful servant well done.
