Obituary For Susie Lewis

Susie Darling Lewis, 84 years, 8 months and 9 days, of Harrisburg, peacefully transitioned into eternal life on Friday, May 28, 2021 at UPMC Harrisburg Hospital. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama, daughter of the late John Coleman and the late Susie Darling and received her formal education in the Birmingham School System. As a young woman, she relocated to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where she met amd married Aaron Lewis and their union was blessed with the birth of three children. Having accepted the Lord as her personal Savior, Susie united with the membership of Harris A. M. E. Zion Church under the leadership of Reverrend George Spells. She was a dovoted member of her church and participated in a number of ministries of the church including the Hospitality Ministry, Culinary Ministry and the Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society. In her leisure, she read her Bible and Prayed daily. She instilled the Love of God into her children and grandchildren. During her working career, she was an employee of the former Castiglia’s Restaurant and the former Polyclinic Hospital in the Dietary Department. She made a name for herself with her cooking skills and worked there for 38 years before she retired. While working there, she also worked part-time jobs. In addition to her parents, Susie’s husband; her three brothers, John Coleman, Jr., Robert Coleman and Albert Coleman and two of her sisters, Catherine Robinson-Clark and Edna Payne-Carpenter preceded her in death. She leaves to celebrate and cherish precious memories of her life with them, her caring children; her son, Larry Lewis; her two daughters, Susan Lewis and Linda Lewis; her granddaughter, Shannon Mason; her great-grandchildren. Jaelin Smith and Shaniya Robinson, all of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; her sister Barbara Ann McKitchens (Michael) and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Her life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 4 in the Chapel of Major H. Winfield Funeral Home, 704 N. Front Street, Steelton, PA 17113 with a Visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and burial in William Howard Day Cemetery. COVID-19 Guidelines will be observed with face masks and social distancing for all attendees. Live Streaming of the service will be available on Major H.
