Obituary For Alfred Jennings Sr.

Deacon Alfred Jennings Sr. affectionately known as “Buddy”, 69 of Montgomery, AL passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2021 after a courageous 6 month battle with brain cancer. His Homegoing services will be held Saturday, June 12th at 12:00 noon at his beloved, New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, 725 Augusta Avenue, Montgomery, AL 36111, where Bishop W. G. Broadnax is Pastor. Public viewing will be held Friday, June 11th from 2 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Phillip and Riley Funeral Home.

Deacon Alfred Jennings entered into this world on March 21, 1952 bringing joy to the late Willie and Fannie Jennings. He gave his life to Christ at an early age being baptized at East Chapel Methodist Church in Coosada, AL where he served for several years. Later in life he united with Revelation Missionary Baptist Church where he was ordained as a Deacon under the leadership of Rev. W. G. Broadnax. There he gave many years of dedicated service. In January of 2000, Deacon Alfred Jennings became one of the Charter Trustees and members of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church where he served faithfully for 21 years serving as Chairman of the Deacon Board until his passing. Deacon Alfred Jennings was a dedicated and skilled driver for the Winn Dixie Distribution Center where he retired in 2017 after 30 years. Soon after retirement, staying true to his nature, he continued working this time as a driver for the Montgomery Area Food Bank. Deacon Jennings was also a well-respected entrepreneur having founded two businesses; AL’s Lawn Service and Jennings’ Property Management I. He was proceeded in death by his parents Willie and Fannie Jennings, 3 brothers Johnny Levert, Willie Jennings and Lewis Jennings and 1 sister Bobbie Fowler. He is survived by wife his loving wife of 30 years, Vernita Winchester-Jennings. Two devoted children, Alexis Jennings & Alfred Jennings Jr. and two adorable grandchildren AyYad Ty’Sean Young and Zoë Reign Jennings. He is also survived by three caring brothers: Samuel (Mamie) Jackson, Larry Jennings, Ricky Jennings and eight dedicated sisters: Betty Jennings, Lavon (Eric) Sanders, Sheran Jennings, Jewel D. McCoy, Lillie (Mathew) Fenderson, Jacqueline (Arthur) Hartwell, Smiley Rogers, and LaVera Long, four loving sisters-in-law Josephine Levert, Carolyn (Ledell) Winchester-Tenner, Diane Winchester and Tiffany Winchester, and one brother-in-law Ronald Winchester as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other beloved family, friends, coworkers, church members and neighbors.

We would like to thank Dr. Whitley of Central Alabama Radiation Oncologist, Dr. Rehan Sarmad at the Montgomery Cancer Center, and Kindred’s at Home, along with the staff of Jennings Professional Homecare Services.
