After an extended illness the Lord called her home on June 7, 2021 at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center, surrounded by multiple family members. Ms. Young was born in Randolph country. The family relocated to Hobson City, Alabama. She attended Calhoun County Training School where she graduated in 1951. She attended Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama. She returned home and married her high school sweetheart, Marion Phillips. To this union one daughter, Rosalind was born. She later married Robert Hoover Young, who preceded her in death. Kathryn was employed as an insurance agent of Protective Industrial Insurance Company for many years. Her pursuit of a different career took her to Atlanta, Georgia, where she worked for Orkin Pest Control.

She then returned to Hobson City and worked at Tape Craft Industrial until she retired. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of the Rising Star United Methodist Church. She later united with New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Hobson City, Alabama, where she remained a faithful member until her death. She served as secretary of the Missionary Society and a choir member until her health prevented her from continuing. She was designated as one of the three "Golden Girls" of the church. She leaves to cherish her memory: a devoted daughter, Rosalind (Rev. Henry) Cooley of Oxford, Alabama; three grandchildren, Derryl (Doris) Cooley of Jacksonville, Alabama, Terryl ( Nika) Cooley of Anniston, Alabama, and Katrea (Algernon) O'Brien of Jacksonville, Alabama; three great-grandchildren, Derryl M. Groce-Cooley, Desmond Cooley, Tyra Cooley; and six bonus great- grandchildren, Brittany, Kyndall, Daja, Trey, Erin, and Evin.

She will now be welcome in heaven by her family members that preceded her: parents, Junious and Estella Dothard, Siblings, Rose O'Hara, Odie Prothro, Brady Prothro, Bertha Rhoden, James Dothard, Gladys Ross and Rev. Elvin Dothard.
