Reverend John Henry Thomas, Jr., surrounded by his family, peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home on Tuesday morning, June 15, 2021. Reverend Thomas was born in Union County on August 29, 1949 to the late Reverend John H. Thomas, Sr. and Elizabeth Rice Thomas.

Reverend Thomas was an Associate-Minister and member of Thompson Chapel Baptist Church in Jonesville, South Carolina where he faithfully served from an early age. He lived his life as an example of love and service to others and was a fervent believer in the power of prayer.

Mr. Thomas retired from the maintenance department at Timken after thirty-six years of dedicated service. After retiring, he continued his passion for painting full-time; widely known for his work painting many homes, churches and businesses across the upstate.

He was preceded in death by: three sisters, Aileen Thompson, Johnnie Patterson and Mamie Pilgrim; two brothers, Lafayette Thomas and William Foster Thomas; one grandson, Reginald Littlejohn; step-mother, Mandana Thomas; and one step-brother, Kemper Floyd.

He leaves to cherish fond and loving memories: one son, Christopher (Tammy) Thomas of Jacksonville, FL; two daughters, Maria (Marvin) Means of Pacolet, SC and Lacresha (Reginald) Littlejohn of Boiling Springs, SC; one sister, Reverend Dorothy (Kennedy) Garrett; one step-sister, Mary Linder of Spartanburg, SC; ten grandchildren, Jamekia Thomas, Tamisha Thomas Malachi Woods, Marvin Means, Jr., Janay Means, Matthew Means, LeBryan and Christian Thomas, Regina Littlejohn and Tamara Littlejohn; ten great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives, nieces, nephews and friends.

A Celebration of the Life of Reverend John Henry Thomas, Jr. will be held on Friday, June 18, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard St. Spartanburg, SC.

Burial will be in the Jonesville Memorial Gardens, 1370 Spartanburg Hwy., Jonesville, SC.

Livestream will be available on Facebook on the TEEFERGUSONREPORT.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the chapel.

To the family I extend sympathy to you on behalf of the Sims High School Class of 1968. It was a joy to have had John as part of our class. He was a kind, caring and gentle person. We appreciate having him as a part of us. Not just at Sims High; but, some of us started out with him at Foster Chapel Elementary School. We have a lot of memories. Love and Blessing to all of you.
