Obituary For James Henry Mitchell

James Henry “Chester” Mitchell, 68 of Quitman, Georgia, passed away on Monday, June 14, 2021.

James, was born and raised in Brooks County to the late Julia Garrison Mitchell and Joseph Mitchell. He was a graduate of Brooks County High School Class of 1971 and later attended Thomas Area Technical School and completed the Auto Body Repair and Brick Masonry programs.

He joined Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and was a devoted member.

James, was drafted by the US Army and served on active duty from April 1972 to April 1974. He later retired from the Army National Guard Delta Company of the 560th Engineer Battalion and the 1148th Transportation Company, after serving for over twenty years. He was employed at T.E.C.T Power Aerospace for over twenty years as a Setup Machine Operator and later retired. Upon retirement, he enjoyed spending time with family, fishing and working in the yard, but most importantly, he loved helping others.

He was proceeded in death by his loving mother, Julia Garrison Mitchell; father, Joseph Mitchell, Sr; son, Antonio Jermaine Mitchell; daughter-in-law, Dayshonda L. Coleman Mitchell and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Ann Mitchell.

He leaves to cherish his memories, the love of his life, Sarah Williams of Boston, Georgia; son James Lamar Mitchell of South Fulton, Georgia; two daughters, Veronica (Eric) Williams of St. Petersburg, Florida and Reslie (Clemmie) Jones of Raeford, North Carolina; sisters, Mary (James Thomas) Everett of Quitman, Georgia, Doris (Johnny) James of Moultrie, Georgia, Beulah (Clifford) Ivory of Quitman Georgia, Julia Mae Henry of Jacksonville, Florida, Catherine (Emmanuel) Clark of Valdosta, Georgia and Maggie Gray of Quitman, Georgia; brothers, Joseph Mitchell, Jr and Willie Drew Mitchell both of Quitman, Georgia; grandchildren, Jamari Mitchell of Boston, Georgia, Jermeria Mitchell of Quitman, Georgia, Eriyana Williams of St. Petersburg, Florida and Ja’Vonnte` Johnson, Ja’Vonne McAllister, Zhane` McAllister all of Raeford, North Carolina; great-granddaughters, Winter Johnson, Aubree Brown and Auri McAllister; god daughters, Erika Lane of Riverview, Florida and Samariah Cason of Quitman, Georgia; uncle, Lt. Hank Jackson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friend, Calvin Lamoute.

A celebration of life will be Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 3PM at the Barnhart Place, across from his residence, with Rev. John Manning, eulogist.
